I do not know why we have so many Christians who believe the entire Bible is written directly to them...

YES!!! Exactly!!!  This is probably a little off-topic, but, I have found very few brothers/sisters in the Lord who understand this, and it is spot-on! I know of a several people who won't believe the Gospel because they could not get past the 'Friday crucifixion' narrative (they can do simple math concerning 3 days and 3 nights before the resurrection). Other attempted explanations for the traditional Friday crucifixion are shallow and involve custom interpretations of 'partial days' and ignore the 'high sabbaths' to keep the traditional Friday date.

I won't say more on this because it will take this thread off the rails; But it resonated with me, so I replied . . . LOL.

However, even that one is not in isolation, if continues with another "for":

Using one verse that you quoted as an example:

“This is what the Lord says: “Babylon will be powerful for 70 years. After that time, I will come to you people who are living in Babylon. I will keep my good promise to bring you back to Jerusalem.

I say this because I know the plans that I have for you.” This message is from the Lord. “I have good plans for you. I don’t plan to hurt you. I plan to give you hope and a good future.”
‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭29:10-11‬

Verse 10 tells us who verse 11 is writing about.

I was asking what verse do many people think applies to them but does not. Especially from the New Testament.

I do see many actions to take in the Old Testament that do not apply to our new agreement in Christ.

The following is not directed to you Omega:

28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.

Everyone who loves God and reads this should believe that it is true and applies to them.

The only reason you would need to dissect this would be to explain to someone that even though they love God they may not be one of his elect. We are not called to do that, and it is not good news. We were asked to share good news.

There is some bad news to tell (consequences of sin) in spreading the word, but if our messages lead others to Christ, then they are left with good news only.

That verse is interesting. As I see it, all things probably means all things. What I mean there is that even things we see as bad, God turns for good, but that good is for those who love Him.

As an extreme example of that, we have the terrible suffering and execution of only sinless man to have ever existed. That is a great evil, terribly unjust, but . . .  God turned it for good - salvation.

It might just be, that sometimes the good that happen which God turns for good, may not happen in our lifetimes, but are things that are seen in eternity. This is where faith comes in, looking past the temporary to the eternal, we have hope and confidence.

Regarding you comment that we are to share good news, of course that is true. I certainly do not make it a habit of discussing election with unbelievers, that is (I think) an in-house discussion, that even the saved have difficulty understanding and accepting.

However, I think the bad news, is what makes the good news to be good news. When I was and atheist, the gospel meant nothing to me. I believed that when I died, I would just go into a sort of permanent sleep, nothing about that was at all threatening, and of course the gospel seemed foolish, though mostly harmless.

I did not believe there was a God who I could sin against, so there was no need for good news, since there is no bad news.

Now of course, I understand that I was hopelessly under-informed!

20But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, 21keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life. 22And have mercy on those who doubt; 23save others by snatching them out of the fire; to others show mercy with fear, hating even the garmentg stained by the flesh. I know, it is an old thread, but I have seen some things that ignore context, such as:

30 Then he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” 31 And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.”

Some take that to mean that if they believe, then everyone in their home will be saved.

Another possibly is:

How about this?

1 Peter 3:20  Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.
21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:

Heb 11:7  By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.

In what context did Noah's faith save his house?

Certainly Noah was warned, and feared God's wrath, built an ark which was the saving of his house from it.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
