Great article on Christmas.

I doubt that the link will be allowed. But it is a Lutheran Misistry. This is part of the study.

"Now does the fact that the Church of Rome chose the same date to celebrate Christ's birth as a popular pagan festival mean that "Christmas is based on a pagan festival" or that "Christmas is pagan"? I don't think so! What kind of reasoning is that? It simply means that they chose the same day - why, we don't exactly know. Perhaps they chose it to keep Christians from taking part in the pagan festivities, or perhaps to entice pagans to join the Christian faith. If a group of Christians chose to celebrate Christ's birth on Halloween or on some well known Satanic day, would it be fair or right to accuse them of basing Christ's birth on paganism, so that from then on Christmas would be forever pagan? Of course not! In this case the Christians might be doing this to give themselves something Christian to celebrate on the day. Is that wrong? Placing a Christian feast on a well known non-Christian day does not make the Christian feast non-Christian. They are merely sharing the day. We worship our God on Sunday, which in Roman times, was the day dedicated to the Sun-god. Does that make our worship on Sunday pagan? Perhaps we should worship on Saturday. But that day in Roman times was named in honor of the god Saturn. Would that make our festivals on Saturday pagan? Of course not. But this is the kind of faulty logic used by the "Christmas is pagan" crowd."

the fact is that we are to worship in spirit and in TRUTH.

That is what bugs me most about christmas and easter. It's a lie.

Yet I have no problem accepting them as the cultural expressions of some of my dearest friends and brothers. Bless their hearts....they can't help it.

I am still waiting on somebody debunking "Christmas tree=Jeremiah". It is what I believe the passage to mean. I am open though to anybody who can give any input as to what Ronald meant about being able to debunk it. I am interested in hearing your comments. If anybody can show me that I have been wrong about the interpretation of the Christmas tree in Jeremiah I would be grateful.

I also wonder if there might be a danger on your part of judging others who do have trees.

I did not mean to sound judgemental to any one. If I did then I am sorry.

I am still pretty much a baby at all of this and am still learning. So if anybody was offended, then I opologise. I was just curious as to what Ronald meant about debunking the tree issue in Jeremiah. I am just interested to know.

ake the christmas tree for instance....We take an axe or saw and basically kill one of God's creations. Then we drag it home and try to make it more beautiful then it already was. Then we bring our gifts to be placed under this tree that we just killed. Then we stand back and marvel at it's beauty. Sounds pretty paganish to me.

Have you ever brought a bouquet of fresh flowers into our home and enjoyed it's beauty?

I do worry about others who are legalistic, who might judge others who dont see things their way.

And we're all still learning. At least I am.
