Thanks for understanding Artsylady. As for your question

"Have you ever brought a bouquet of fresh flowers into our home and enjoyed it's beauty?" Yes I have.

It is just that it sounds very much in Jeremiah that it is refering to a Christmas tree and that is what made me come to the conclusion that I did. If I am wrong and way off on this then I am always glad to hear. I would prefer somebody to point out where I am going wrong instead of letting me carry on with doing something wrong. I guess that its sort of like if I saw a friend running and ready to jump off a cliff I would tell them to stop instead of not bothering and putting them in danger or letting them make a mistake. So if I am wrong in this whole Jeremiah = Christmas tree thing, then I would prefer somebody to tell me that I am wrong and where I am wrong instead of me carrying on thinking wrongly about it.

Trees and flowers are two different things, entirely. And you are not wrong.

Romans used the cross to torture and kill lots of people so christians shouldn't wear crosses. Highliner uses the fish symbol so christians shouldn't use the fish symbol or we might be mistaken for battered fish worshippers.

Give me a break. We are not to be superstitious. Do people still use christmas trees for the same reason that the pagans did? I doubt it. I don't even know why the pagans used christmas trees. If you have any wood in your home you are probably guilty of taking something that God made and trying to make it look different. Some people are just too miserable to enjoy the simple things in life and it seems that misery loves company. Why don't you christmas haters get together with the UCLA and try to ban christmas all together. I'm sure they would love your support.

Jeremiah 10:3

For the customs of the peoples are delusion; Because it is wood cut from the forest, The work of the hands of a craftsman with a cutting tool.

10:4 "They decorate {it} with silver and with gold; They fasten it with nails and with hammers So that it will not totter.

NASB

The work of a craftsman? That wouldn't be a Christmas tree-any ole Joe could cut one down without any problem. The part of fastening it with nails and hammers couldn't refer to a Christmas tree either-you wouldn't do such. This is clearly talking about an idol.

As a matter of fact, if one goes on down just a bit, we read this:

5 "Like a scarecrow in a cucumber field are they, And they cannot speak; They must be carried, Because they cannot walk! Do not fear them, For they can do no harm, Nor can they do any good."

We don't carry around Christmas trees! We are clearly seeing the description of an idol here-a statue of some sort. As a matter of fact, if you go on down to verse 8, it says this:

8 But they are altogether stupid and foolish {In their} discipline of delusion--their idol is wood!

So, we definetely see this is an idol. This was something to be worshipped, an action we dont' take with a Christmas tree!

Perhaps they chose it to keep Christians from taking part in the pagan festivities, or perhaps to entice pagans to join the Christian faith.

They merely share the same day.

Why must people feel the need to tear down the good that comes from Christmass?

Pagans have celebration days on Sundays, does this mean that we should not celebrate God on Sundays?

Hogwash.

It's just a date.

Thanks for replying Ronald and giving me your point about Jeremiah. The only thing is that you said that it is clearly refereing to an idol and not a Christmas tree, yet it still sounds like a Christmas tree to me. When people have idols they would usually bow to it and bring it an offering. When you come to a Christmas tree you would lean over (bow to it) and put the gifts (offerings) under it. With considering this it does sound like a Christmas tree is an idol of sorts. That is just my take on it.

I don't know about you , but I have never given a gift to my christmas tree. Call me insensitive but it's only a stupid tree. :noidea:

Me neither. I don't bow to it, worship it or bring it offerings. I usually get a fake tree anyway, so no chopping down one for me.

how about plastic Christmas trees then? Here in australia we like to do it the easy way, since its summer we dont have those nice lush giant trees to chop down even if we wanted to hahaha. So would you consider Christmas in australia? Heh. No chopping here.

I think your getting a bit carried away with the whole leaning over putting gifts under the tree being idolatry. Come off it! Thats like saying leaning over and putting your baby into a crib is idolising the crib and your child is the offering!... i mean, a cribs made of wood too isnt it. hahaha. We put gifts under the tree for each other. Not the tree.

Like i said, this dramatic negative look at the season to be jolly is satan trying to take the joy out of Giving. Jesus gave. Why cant we? Jesus was joyful? Why cant we be? The reason for the season is Jesus. Everything else is a nice bonus. Theres no reason we cant celebrate Christmas with all the bells and whistles. As long as we know the true meaning.

Just a question...if the Christam Tree isn't an idol to you...what would be the big deal to go without it??? What are we holding onto?

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
