I'm going with God on this point
Rom 10:17

17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
KJV
No where does God say praying in tongues will increase your faith...

This Scripture refers to Salvation.  Being Edified by Tongues as Paul discusses later is well after this point and the point of being filled with the Holy Spirit.   Since no unbeliever has either the Holy Spirit or the Gifts of the Holy Spirit, the first step is just to hear so they may believe.   Tongues, Discernment, Prophecy, etc is a progression well after the context to the meaning of your Verse.   Your Verse unfortunately has nothing to do with Speaking in Tongues other than to progress to the Gifts of the Holy Spirit [well AFTER] your Verse has been fulfilled.

Praying in tongues delivers many blessings, healings and miracles. Recently I visited a brother and sister in the Lord for a coffee and chat. Rita told me how her eyesight had gone very bad suddenly and everything was very blurry. She had Macular degeneration and would need a new prescription for spectacles. I prayed for her in tongues (a few times) about her eyesight and some other health issues. Last Sunday she gave a short testimony on how her eyes had been healed from MD and that the new glasses were no longer appropriate for her eyesight.

I do believe that these miracles occur, but I don't believe they are the results of speaking in tongues itself.  I believe that God honors faith, and if one has faith that God will move then God will move.  A person could stomp their feet and say "begone Satan," and God will rebuke Satan because of their faith not because their is power in stomping their feet.

The plain reading is faith comes from the intake of God's Word! The rest of your comment I consider charismatic jargon...

How do you edify yourself then?

There's only [one] way given and Paul explains it through Speaking in Tongues.

Maybe you don't desire to be edified by God and why you refuse to accept the Gift of Tongues, I don't know, but I prefer that God edifies me vs not being edified.

I immerse myself in His Word and His Persons increase within my heart... as I walk through the day my prayers structured according to His Word I see Him answer: That alone assures me of His pleasure of me. The immense ways He verifies His presence when I am striving to follow His lead according to The Word also blesses me to tears at time etc... But 100% is His Word and it presses me to know it more and more for it produces faith outside of this 1st created element that passes away...

As do I, but for some reason, people have seen results for the better in the Church Body when I am asked to pray for their situation.   I truly believe the Edification from God through Speaking in Tongues, as it is described by Paul to be a Warrior Language that builds up to withstand and to attack the attempts of the Enemy, is the biggest key.   Paul is credited for 2/3 of the New Testament.  It seems to be a great tragedy to ignore his teachings especially when it concerns Spiritual Warfare.

I have never tried to pray and have it become a point of where it is Speaking in Tongues.   Although Paul claimed he spoke in Tongues more than anyone else like he was bragging about it.   But in order to speak in Tongues as much as Paul claimed, it means he did it almost every time he prayed in secret or in open.   But when it happens that I do speak in Tongues, when I am done praying, I have had this immediate thought about something happening.   And it has never been about something happening in the past, it's always been now or future.   And sure enough, it has taken place.   So those thoughts afterwards I've learned is the interpretation even though I have no idea of what I am saying at the time.

See myself I could not go there for it is faith in that which the Scripture cannot discern... if I were to ask you how do you know it's God you would have to say sensual gratification for there is no communication to examine the reality with Scripture.... this makes me very suspicious of source for God has given His Word to try the spirits with....

I know it's God from Discernment, which is another Gift of the Holy Spirit.  The Beauty about the Gifts of the Holy Spirit is they will always confirm one another.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

      Shalom everyone,

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
