This shows he in fact had an issue with covetousness.

The meaning of covetousness is Strong desire; eagerness. n. The character of being covetous, in an evil sense; a strong or inordinate desire of obtaining and possessing something, without regard to law or justice; overbearing avarice.

Very close, but it's says in a evil sense, without law or Justice. Meaning a person is not to far from stealing a possession to have it. I don't think that was it, but look at the situation as if you have to sell, all you have, or give to the poor, as soon as you read this message, not to mention if have millions in possession. It's not a easy thing to do, especially if you work hard for it.

I got covetousness from a commentary, but my initial thought was maybe he didn’t love others as he loved himself. You are right it’s not an easy thing to do.
