Fear can be a natural instinctive protective response to actual or perceived danger.

Visitations of angels almost always start off with "Don't be afraid!" because no doubt their appearance creates a natural fear response in those they appear to. That's not a bad thing on the person's part.

I think you're right Whyme, there is a time to fear.
Fear God, and nothing else...

Those who fear men do not fear God.
Those who fear God do not fear men.

"And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul:
but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell"

Matthew 10:28

Satan wants us to fear. God understands our human weaknesses. If we stay focused on God we do not need to fear.

I don’t believe it’s wrong, but it needs to be overcome, only God can help us overcome fear, once we recognise it.

fear is a natural human emotion...however, one that those in Christ no longer need to live by.

We're not supposed to be afraid. That goes for people who are trying to walk with the Lord. People who have gone astray have things to fear, but even they can repent and walk with the Lord.

Well what does His word say " For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."

And is it not also written "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love."

So if fear is not of God then when is it ever ok? Fear of the lord is not the spirit of fear it means to be in reverent awe of His holiness, to give Him complete reverence and to honor Him as the God of great glory, majesty, purity and power.

I need to delve deeper into the original translations of the term. I suspect maybe the word has different applications in the Bible all depending on the usage.

Some things are right in the right situations, while wrong in others. The time I looked down and seen a rattle snake next to my leg with his rattles going I was a bit concerned. I don't understand how a person can jump from a bridge from 100ft with only pavement underneath . I would think self preservation would kick it, yet a young man just did that not three weeks ago locally here. The man who takes his pocket rocket up on the back wheel doing 90mph should maybe be thinking about what could happen if the bike goes all the way over.

I don't see how anyone could overlook the the possibility they will stand in front of a being so powerful human eyes burn out looking at Him. So terribly powerful the whole of creation bows to Him. Doesn't that scare anyone even a tiny little bit? It does me. Even if I'm on good standing with Him.

Fear is well warranted in certain situations. Just sayin'

I have found the guys going around saying they aren't afraid of anything are the biggest cowards when something seriously scary goes down. When that tornado comes to your front door where are those gonads now cowboy? :D

It is a good idea, like @Starise said, do a word study on the word fear.  To fear God has a very different meaning than to fear man or circumstances.
