It's one thing if people are starving and really NEED the meat....but that isn't the case with 99.9% of the people in America.  The vast majority of people eat meat because they LIKE it, not because they NEED it...

Have you ever looked up and studied the effect that meat has on the human body?  We all know the effect sugar has....makes kids bounce off the walls, right?  Well, meat has a different effect, it makes people more CARNAL and AGGRESSIVE.  They did a study in a prison and found that prisoners on a vegetarian diet were much less aggressive and they had fewer fights.  My grandfather was a PRIZE FIGHTER.....before he became a Christian....and he would LITERALLY DRINK BLOOD before he fought, because it made him much more aggressive....  That is what  meat does.....

 

That last paragraph is frankly a bit over the top. Sorry, but it sounds like a straw man argument, but maybe that's just me. I have, however, heard that preached by some SDAs I knew in East Texas. Somehow their comments always fell flat since we were in the middle of ranch country and all kinds of livestock.

There is no warrant for the NT believer to keep the dietary laws. This has been stated many times, but I'll repeat it here. Salvation is by faith alone in Christ alone - because we fallen humans could not keep the Law to begin with.

I cook my pork well so I am not at risk for worms in pork. Worms linger in salmon even if it is cooked. 

Pork tapeworm can be acquired by eating the undercooked meat of an infected pig. The person can have few or no symptoms of the parasite. The worm lives in the intestinal track, sometimes for years, not doing much damage. You can also can get a pork tapeworm infection even if you never eat pork.

So, why do you think God put this verse in the NEW TESTAMENT if it matters NOT what you eat?

I've read alot of posts in this thread where many of you say that a New Testament Christian can eat anything they want....  That doesn't seem to JIVE with this verse.  Clearly the REVERSE of this text is saying that there ARE things you can EAT & DRINK that DO NOT bring glory to God.

That verse has more to do with the right heart attitude in whatever you are doing - to glorify the Lord. Paul was using eating and drinking as examples - and again: Gentile believers do not have to abide by the OT food laws. Plenty of scripture has been posted on that point. Christ fulfilled the law.

So Alive, I'm just about to hit the hay here  (We go to bed usually about 8:30 and I get up about 4:30.).... You quoted these verses as proof that Christians can eat anything they want to eat ~

Can you tell me, regarding Timothy 4:1-5, specifically what in that verse says it's now acceptable for Christians to eat UNCLEAN MEATS?  Can you give me a verse that specifically says that PORK is NOW OK for Christians to eat?  It needs to be as specific as the verse that says that PORK is NOT OK for Christians to eat ~

Where is a verse that clearly says that the pig is NOW CLEAN food?

As for Romans 14:16, I agree 100%. The kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking.   You CANNOT eat your way into Heaven :).  But you surely can eat your way OUT.

Romans 14:20....That ALL is a very inclusive word.  When I send my kids to the grocery store, I tell them, "You can buy ANYTHING (same as ALL) you want to buy."  But my kids KNOW that when I say ALL or ANYTHING, it is WITHIN the list of APPROVED FOODS.  They know they could never buy beer or cigarettes or unclean meat and bring them home and say, "Mom, you said I could buy ANYTHING I wanted."  So too, the JEWS all knew that when God said "ANYTHING" that ALL or ANYTHING included ALL the wonderful APPROVED FOODS, but NONE of the foods on the UNCLEAN LIST.
