Charon:

Charon, in Greek mythology, is the ferryman of the dead. The souls of the deceased are brought to him by Hermes, and Charon ferries them across the river Acheron. He only accepts the dead which are buried or burned with the proper rites, and if they pay him an obolus (coin) for their passage. For that reason a corpse had always an obolus 1 placed under the tongue.

Those who cannot afford the passage, or are not admitted by Charon, are doomed to wander on the banks of the Styx for a hundred years. Living persons who wish to go to the underworld need a golden bough obtained from the Cumaean Sibyl. Charon is the son of Erebus and Nyx. He is depicted as an sulky old man, or as a winged demon carrying a double hammer. He is similar to the Etruscan (Charun).

Minos:

The legendary king of Crete, son of Zeus and the Phoenician princess Europa. Minos and his two brothers, Rhadamanthys and Sarpedon, were raised in the royal palace of Cnossus. Minos married Pasiphae, daughter of the sun-god Helios. Some of their children were Phaedra, Ariadne, and Andregeos.

In mythology, a dispute over the sovereignty of Crete led Minos to ask Poseidon for help. He asked the god to send an offering as a sign of his true kingship. The god of the sea sent a gleaming pure white bull, which emerged miraculously from the waves. This confirmed to all concerned that Minos was their true king. However, as soon as King Minos saw this magnificent beast he refused to sacrifice it to Poseidon, and replaced it with another.

If that is who Michelangelo painted in that scene, then he did portray false gods, mythology. This is not something I was aware of until I saw your link. Such a thing might encourage people today to regard the bible in the same way as the greek mythology. A dangerous thing.

Our Lord is very real. One day every knee will bow. They will all recognize Him. Hopefully not before it is too late for their eternal destination.

Well it looks like end times madness has been around for many many years. Look at all the false lies being spread around today about end times. Take for instance belief in the rapture and once saved always saved doctrines. You're considered a complete outcast if you do not believe in these lies today.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

You aren't considered a complete outcast, you would be considered Catholic

I do remember hearing that he spoke of an urgent need to evangelize and spread the Gospel.

I remember hearing him admit there was no literal hell. But then, so did Billy Graham.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Do you know where you heard that, TC? I'd be interested in knowing what the "Holy Father" (sorry, feeling a bit puckish tonite ;) ) had to say about hell.

(I'm saying this in a "matter-of-fact" tone, no anger or sarcasm)

Because "they" think that "we" are deceived by Satan, who runs our church, and our pope is the antichrist.

They do not believe, no matter how much proof we offer, that we are Christians.

They have been fed lies about us for so long, they can't listen to anything else.

It's a pity really.

I try to go to a weekday Mass at least once a week on my lunch hour.

There are usually about 20-40 people of all ages, races, and nationalities, there in the small chapel.

The "sermonette" lasts about 3-4 minutes, because it's a short Mass--many come on their lunch time as I do.

Last week the Gospel reading was the one where Jesus tells Peter to "put out into the deep".

The sermon talked of trusting in Jesus in all things and giving everything to Him.

Does that sound like Satanism to you?????

I've said several times, that twice a year, we repeat our Baptismal vows. It goes something like this....

Priest: "Do you reject Satan?"

People: "I do".

Priest: "And all his empty promises"

People: "I do"

Priest: "Do you believe in Jesus Christ who was born of a virgin, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and rose from the dead?"

People: "I do"

etc.

Anyone who believes some of the misinformation I've seen posted here about the RCC, ....well ..it's just sad.

I know most of you are only trying to "save me" and I respect that.

I'm not out to make trouble. I came here because I truly love to discuss and even debate things of God.

And, maybe I hoped to correct some misunderstandings.

That's all.

Peace,

Fiosh

;)

You know that Luke 17:21 has Jesus saying that the kingdom of God is within you. That's pretty much saying that heaven is a state of conscousness, same as hell. Ol' Pope JP was pretty sharp.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

There is some dispute whether the Greek preposition "entos" is being used to mean "within" or "among"---referring to Jesus Himself.

In either case, not a state of consciousness-----a REALITY.

That's the part many people, Christians and atheists alike, have trouble with.

This stuff is real.

Peace to you,

Fiosh

Dear Opus dei,

I was raised Catholic and my whole family is still Catholic. I, however, chose another route. It is certainly wrong to say that a Catholic person is a follower of the antichrist. sheesh, I know that there are lots of Christians in the Catholic church, just as there are lots of Christians in other Christian denominations. In fact, all Christian denominations have both wheat and tares--true Christians and false ones.

There is however, some evidence in the book of Revelation that the Antichrist may be manifested in the Catholic church. I do believe, however, there are differing opinions on this. There are opportunities within all churches for Satan to take hold. I belonged to the Christian/Church of Christ for years (funny so did Jim Jones) Then of course, there is the shocking revelation that the BTK killer is the president of a Lutheran congregation! The sexual abuse of children by priests is a shameful blow to Christianity as well, And who can forget Jimmy Swaggert, Jim Baker and other televanelists of questionable character. We could go on and on. And on a more personal note, we all have failed somehow haven't we?

So, what's a Christian to do? Know the Word, so you can't be misled. Believe that Christ died for your sins. Love God and most importantly, if you find yourself in church where your faith is compromised---RUN. God will take care of His children.

"Come out from her," God tells those of his children who find themselves in the midst of Babylon.

But don't be fooled there is no secret code you have to learn, no special prophet to follow. Just be God's child and trust Him, he will lead you where you need to be.

A state of consciousness is the only thing that makes sense for heaven or hell. The NIV says "within you".

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Hi TC,

Explain what you mean by "state of consciousness" .

Thanks,

F

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
