The other day I was watching the sun set. After the sun had gone down completely it was still quite light everywhere, no real change from when the sun was up. Then I started to think, "does the sun really give us all the light we have?" then I started to think "what actually is light?".

Thinking about that, the account of creation came to mind and in Genesis God created light before He put the sun in the sky!

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was empty, a formless mass cloaked in darkness. And the Spirit of God was hovering over its surface. Then God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. And God saw that it was good. Then he separated the light from the darkness. God called the light "day" and the darkness "night." Together these made up one day.

And God said, "Let bright lights appear in the sky to separate the day from the night. They will be signs to mark off the seasons, the days, and the years. Let their light shine down upon the earth." And so it was. For God made two great lights, the sun and the moon, to shine down upon the earth. The greater one, the sun, presides during the day; the lesser one, the moon, presides through the night. He also made the stars. God set these lights in the heavens to light the earth, to govern the day and the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. This all happened on the fourth day.

It was 3 days after God had created light that He put the sun and the moon along with the other stars in space!

So my questions are; what actually IS light? And where does it all come from? Sure we know the sun produces light too, but surely, if we are to believe Genesis, light must be something else in it's own right?

Wow, deep thinker.

That's an interesting question........I am looking forward to hearing what others say.

Meanwhile, I'll get out my Bible and see what it says.

Looking forward to this thread.

I can't remember where I read this, but I believe it was concerning the "new earth" after the return of Christ.

Something about there will be no need for light because God will our light. So maybe God's glory was the "first light" :emot-questioned: I'll look for that chapter and verse again.

Hello,

It's in Revelation -

Revelation 21:22-26

  • 22 I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple.
23 The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp.
24 The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it.
25 On no day will its gates ever be shut, for there will be no night there.
26 The glory and honor of the nations will be brought into it.

Just thought I'd save you some time :emot-questioned:

Be blessed my friends,

Tim

Yeah I did think about that, but then, Genesis says Then God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. And God saw that it was good. - if it was God's own light, He wouldn't have to say 'let it be' to see it and then to notice that it was good if it was His own light, would He?

So it sounds like this first light was indeed created as with the rest of the earth in the beginning.

Luke,

I pondered that too :) Its a good question, really it is...but I don't know how well it can be answered. I'll think about and debate with my own self for awhile over it.. :)

It is just a theory on my part, but I truly believe that when God said lit there be light..... "BANG" we had what scientists call the big bang.

Once all this came to be the light which is very high energy was transformed into all that we see at night. We have the understanding of turning energy into mass and mass into energy and from this all else came about.

Just a theory of my own to tie a lot of things together.

All understood guys,

But I've been looking through what Luke was talking about, what is the difference "Let there be LIGHT," and "the greater LIGHT to rule by day," I've looked it up in the concordance and I'm still unsure as to the possible difference. Of course I know the greater light is the sun. But what is the first light that was created?

Sorry Luke I have come up with anything yet :emot-questioned: back to square one.

Light is the absence of Darkness and Darkness is the absence of Light.

I would tell you what or who the Light is but would be flogged.

So I invite you to read Psalms 112:4

And John chapter 1 1-11

1 timothy 6

John 8:12

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
