New Orleans is gone, some are even saying never to be rebuilt, which brings to mind this passage:

Isa 21:9

And, behold, here cometh a chariot of men, with a couple of horsemen. And he answered and said, Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the graven images of her gods he hath broken unto the ground.

Or this one even more:

Jer 51:8

Know what, saints, I've been thinking off an on about this thread or the past couple of days.

It seems like everytime there is a cataclysmic event in the world there are some who rise up and shout, "See? This is God's judgment for their wicked ways!"

There are several problems with that line of thinking, not the least of which is the testimony the church being utterly compromised. One of the main problems, however, is the fact that the Bible never gives Christians the right to use these sorts of natural disasters as a means of condemning others. In fact, the Bible never gives Christians any means or right to condemn, or judge others. It is God that condemns and God that judges.

Now, you may think that various natural disasters are God's warnings or judgments, and you may believe with all of your heart that the Bible supports your thought. However, nowhere in the Bible has God ever judged a people using natural events without first sending a warning to those people. That God always warns people concerning His judgments, and gives them a means of salvation from that judgment is well established in the Bible, and matches God's character.

Now, aside from the fact that Louisianas and Mississippi are flooded, and God promised never to judge the earth by a flood again, I think it's extremely callous to assume that the peoples in these states, many of whom are God fearing people, are suffering God's judgment. Furthermore, to state such in the face of such harsh human tragedy is simply uncalled for.

When the good people (and "bad" people) of Louisiana and Mississippi need most of all right now is our prayers and our hands. If you cannot use your hands to help save a life, then use them in prayer.
