Texas ain't got no hitch in their giddyup

Texas isn't waiting for federal money to get things going... they already have the kids in school with the help of a hotline # they set up so parents would know which school their kids should go to... they have extra bus drivers to get them there and are hiring more teachers.

At the superdome, they set up a make-shift post office with its own zip code and evacuees received mail today.

Houston residents can donate food and other items by simply leaving the items in bags at their curbside- the city's Solid Waste Management Department and the local City Wide Club charity will pick the donations up for their food and clothes drive.

In Midland retired military personnel wanted to help, so some World War II-era planes based in Texas have been used to ferry supplies to Louisiana hurricane victims.

Amazing to see them get so organized out of the chaos and not let these people stagnate in a shelter but actually move forward. Pretty cool I think. Texas is my hero, lol.

In Lubbock some 100 have already left the shelter to go live with friends or family. That's 1/4 of the population gone in 7 days. We have already had a job fair and found employment for many. Our children are in school. The evacuees are on a closed air force base and so they have their own playgrounds, cafeteria, theater, basketball courts, computer rooms and chapel. We have nightly concerts, both gospel and other, regular church services and we show movies. We have regular bus service that takes them jsut about anywhere they wish to go, from shopping to parks to area attractions. Not to mention the round the clock service they recieve for health care and family services.

The best thing, in my opinion, is the staff of volunteers that work around the clock locating family members.

I'm pretty pleased with my city and state right now. Go Texas.

Do not be boastful at a time like this. No one needs to know how much we are doing for the people that are suffering a terrible loss. I am so proud of the out pouring of compassion that has been shone by the people of Texas, and the rest of the world. Let us continue to have mercy on the affected people and the families. It would be a nice thing if the different states that are helping in the relief did not look for repayment. Charity is a wonderful thing to see, hear, and of course participate in.
