Have respect unto the covenant, for the dark places of the earth are full of the habitations of cruelty.                                 Psalms 74:20.

The Hebrew word navat, here translated as have respect, means to look upon, watch over with care, carefully consider, and is also at times translated “Behold!’. The psalmist here offers up a prayer in verses 18-23 for deliverance from the enemy.

18 Remember this, that the enemy has reproached, O Lord,
And that a foolish people has blasphemed Your name.
19 Oh, do not deliver the life of Your turtledove to the wild beast!
Do not forget the life of Your poor forever.
20 Have respect unto the covenant;
For the dark places of the earth are full of the haunts of cruelty.
21 Oh, do not let the oppressed return ashamed!
Let the poor and needy praise Your name.

22 Arise, O God, plead Your own cause;
Remember how the foolish man reproaches You daily.
23 Do not forget the voice of Your enemies;
The tumult of those who rise up against You increases continually.

Now the enemy would like you to believe that the “dark places of the earth” are those seedy parts of town or the world where they practice dark arts. Unfortunately, there are a multitude of “well lit” places in our society where the light of truth is suppressed.

Jesus said: If the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness! Matthew 6:23.

Praise God For the Light of Truth!

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:5.

I am not going to try to call out all the falsehoods disguised as “angels of light”, but I will always exhort you to spend time where you can find that light that the darkness cannot comprehend, and that is in your prayer closet. Ironically, you don’t even need the light on.

If I say surely the darkness shall cover me, even the night shall be light about me. Yea, the darkness hides not from you, but the night shines as the day, the darkness and the light are both alike to you. Psalm 139:11, 12.

Of course we are also called upon to have respect unto the covenant, for this is a relationship.

Consider these verses from Psalm 119 in closing.

:6 Then I shall not be ashamed when I have respect unto all your commandments.

:15 I will meditate on your precepts and have respect unto your ways.

:18: Open my eyes that I may behold (navat) wondrous things out of your Law.

The words of our heavenly Father and Savior pour out knowledge, wisdom, understanding, and life. Sadly, people tend to ignore these words and go after the things of the world. I see this more and more and day by day.

Unfortunately, those "people" now seems to include more and more of the Church itself, pursuing and teaching a false doctrine to accommodate the worldly instead of standing against the worldly to pursue and teach true doctrine.

More and more, the Church has become a Church of accommodation trying to include everyone and everything without somehow offending them with the true teaching of the bible in place of preaching the truth of the Gospel, the narrow road that leads to salvation, to those who are willing to hear it.

Mainstream churches have been in the business of “accommodating” the mainstream cultural morals (or lack of) for the last 40-50 years, ignoring Bible scriptures that are black and white about what is sexually immoral especially. If you say outloud publicly that any sex outside of a married relationship between a Man and a Woman is SIN in God’s eyes, you will be laughed at.

Preachers who are grounded in The Word and bold enough to preach true Biblical morality and consequences of sin and judgment, are fewer and fewer.

It's in the mind that the darkness can reside. It's in the mind that that the light can reside.

I have God dwelling within me. God is light.

No matter where you are, you chose,  to think on that which is true, light, or that which is false, darkness.

Don't curse the darkness.  Share the light!

Sow seed, light. Those with light should be good stewards of their light.

We reap what we sow. (Think on that a bit)

In two of the verses in Psa 119 6 and 15 its not the same word used. Some use the word regard and respect yet are they the same? :) Not being picky for both are used and I just like it. Praise GOD glory to Jesus we Christ in us are the light of this world. Darkness  has to flee.

As for Churches..hmm I wonder what Christ sees.. guessing the good what GOOD do they do for Him? Should we the light know this first? No offense. Been a master at seeing the ooh "the good the bad and the ugly" haha pffft. What I always did thinking I was the wise one yet its not what Christ looked at. To hear Him say about someone you know does wrong yet He says "do you know the good he does for me?" Christ was looking at something I never saw. Anyway just a thought

Hi, @TheBlade, Jesus lets us know what He sees and what He is looking for in churches (groups of Christians worshipping together) in Revelation, chapters 2 and 3.  It’s a good summary. :)

@Mr. M… With regard to the topic of this thread, a familiar proverb comes to mind:  “In mercy and truth atonement is provided for iniquity;  and by the fear of the LORD one departs from evil.”  Proverbs 16:6    There is no other path but the one Jesus has lovingly, willingly, painfully made for us.  Any departure from it or lack of respect for it will only bring misery.

navat in the Psalms

A wonderful study from OT to NT by Paul, and navat.

Genesis 15:

5 Then He brought him outside and said, “Look now toward heaven, (consider the heavens)

and count the stars if you are able to number them.”

And He said to him, “So shall your descendants be.”

6 And he believed in the Lord, and He accounted it to him for righteousness.

Romans 4:16-22 Therefore it is of faith that it might be according to grace, so that the promise might be sure to all the seed, not only to those who are of the law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all (as it is written, “I have made you a father of many nations”) in the presence of Him whom he believed—God who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did; who, contrary to hope, in hope believed, so that he became the father of many nations, according to what was spoken, “So shall your descendants be.”  And not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead (since he was about a hundred years old), and the dryness of Sarah’s womb. He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform. And therefore “it was accounted to him for righteousness.”

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
