There are things in Leviticus which are not carried over into the NT. Hebrews 7.12 also says the law was changed, and what we now have - as per Hebrews 7.19 - is better than the law.

( cc. @Jayne )

So, are you considering God's Heart has changed in this? This is getting very close to the end justifies the means... for myself I keep myself in the areas of desire to please Him, not out of demand (law), but out of Love He provides me to return to Him:
John 14:21 (KJV)
[21] He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him
.

As we individually prepare to meet with Jesus and give an account for ourselves according to His Word: (Judgment Seat of Christ or Great White Throne)
John 12:47 (KJV)
[47] And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
[48] He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day
.

Scripture is the standard by which we are made able to live for and please our God.... Noone can say I did not know for that is why The Lord had it written down ...
2 Timothy 3:15 (KJV)
[15] And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
[16] All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
[17] That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works
.

@Willa Perhaps even how far you understand your Christian daughter's and granddaughter's having gotten tattooed with faith based content relates to the extent to which they explained to you why they found it so highly desirable to become tattooed? (or maybe they did thoroughly explain it...)

No one explained anything so I just try to ignore them.  I don't think anything helps.  They are still like an ugly scar.

Excellent verses there. What I had in mind was this: Do preachers shave? in Leviticus it seems to say about not trimming the corners of beards. If preachers do shave, then maybe they are backhandedly admitting that they are New Testament Christians for whom the Gospel is the rule of life, rather than Old Testament Jews - with bushy beards - in the land under the law. Also, some of the dietary provisions of Leviticus were done away with in Acts.

@Willa Sounds like your tattooed daughter and granddaughter(s) still mystify you as to their reasons for thinking it was strongly desirous to do.

My guess would be that the way they feel about it would likely be quite similar to why others think it's something strongly desirous also.

Maybe for your daughter and granddaughter(s) it seemed to offer a way of expressing a unique personal persona? (as well as a faith talking point about the design - itself a desired personal persona, perhaps).

your comparison isn't without merit...

Tattoos, at best are nothing more then art....They are not witnessing tools. If you want one then get one...just don't make up excuses to justify having one.

@The_Patriot21 My wife and I talked anyway to a young lady with the whole of John 3.16 tattooed on her wrist area; it led to the conversation. You would likely have found the conversation interesting, anyway.

@Willa PS: The lady in the quote I gave above is thoroughly conservative and traditional in her outlook - as maybe your daughter and granddaughter(s) are also(?). It seems that being thoroughly conservative and thinking tattoo parlor service is strongly desirous, are often not regarded as contradictory at all.

I really don't care why people get tattoos or if they are beneficial.  In my opinion they are ugly and I can't get around that.

@Willa (the other thread is closed now where you made this comment)

That means that if I call Farouk a nincompoop for promoting tattoos and he calls me a muttonhead for thinking they are ugly, we are both in hot water.  lol.

:)

"Promoting tattoos" would more be a perception; what interests me is analyzing the subject from various angles, and indeed the various posters have been helping to do so.

(The poll results so far are interesting also.)

@Willa Kind of in your family, To each her own, I guess.........

I thought that Nancy summed it up rather well:

tattoos ... everyone and their grandmothers has them now and, they do not a thing for me, what can I say? Pretty much every one I know, and that includes Christians and myself, have a tattoo so...I am not criticizing anybody here or anywhere...

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
