Revelation 2:

20 Nevertheless I have a few things against you, because you allow that woman Jezebel,

who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and seduce My servants to commit sexual immorality

and eat things sacrificed to idols.

21 And I gave her time to repent of her sexual immorality, and she did not repent.

22 Indeed I will cast her into a sickbed, and those who commit adultery with her into great tribulation,

unless they repent of their deeds.

23 I will kill her children with death, and all the churches shall know that I am He who searches

the minds and hearts. And I will give to each one of you according to your works.

There is much discussion surrounding this prophetess Jezebel,

and analysis concerning "the spirit of Jezebel".

Two attempts to identify and deal with this spirit in the Church are included as links.

One thing is certain, as always we must contend with the purity of mind and heart

of those who would overcome.

1. Master manipulator

The Jezebel spirit is a master manipulator. It will try to control you by any means necessary. One of the most common ways it does this is by playing on your emotions. It will try to make you feel guilty or ashamed and use your insecurities against you. If you are not careful, the Jezebel spirit can take over your life and cause havoc.

2. Fear

Jezebel will try to scare you into submission. It may threaten you with physical violence, false accusations or worse. The Jezebel spirit can destroy your reputation and ruin your relationships if you are not careful.

3. Seduction

Jezebel will try to lure you into sexual sin. It may even convince you one way or another. The Jezebel spirit is known for using witchcraft to control its victims. If you are not careful, the Jezebel spirit can lead you down a dark path that will be difficult to escape from.

A quick caveat: This doesn’t mean that everyone who has this Spirit is seductive in an outward sense, but inwardly. Remember 1 Samuel 16:7 which states “But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”

4. Crafty

Jezebel is crafty, sneaky, and always tries to stay one step ahead. She achieves her desires through indirect or deceitful methods. Thus, if you don’t discern, her tactics are often successful because those she targets cannot see through her facade.

5. Lack of submission to authority

It is a spirit of lawlessness. This spirit does not want to submit to any authority, including the authority of God. The Jezebel spirit wants everyone to follow her and do things her way.

6. Rebellion

The Jezebel spirit is a spirit of rebellion. The Jezebel spirit is very dangerous, and it can have a very negative influence on human beings. If you are under the influence of this spirit, it will be very difficult for you to submit to authority. You will always want to do things your way, and you will rebel against anyone trying to tell you what to do.

7. Control

The Jezebel spirit is very controlling. It wants to control everything and everyone around it. This includes, but is not limited to, controlling what people think, what they do, and how they feel. The Jezebel spirit will go to great lengths to control the people in its life.

8. Prideful

The Jezebel spirit thinks highly of itself and loves to be the center of attention. The Jezebel spirit loves to be worshiped and adored. It will often try to take credit for things it did not do.

9. Intimidation

Another way that the Jezebel spirit operates is through intimidation. It will try to intimidate people into doing what it wants them to do.

10. Attracted to positions of power

The Jezebel spirit is attracted to people who are in positions of power. It loves to control them and use them for its own purposes.

8 Characteristics of the Spirit of Jezebel

1. It Operates in Men and Women

I remember a time when I was doing deliverance on this man and the spirit of Jezebel manifested. It had been causing lust in his life and after the guy was delivered, he was free from pornography. It is a lie that this spirit only operates in women through the means of control.

2. It Causes Control, Manipulation, & Domination (A Form of Witchcraft)

Manipulation, intimidation, and the desire or impulse to control people is a characteristic of Jezebel.

The Bible says the fruit of the Holy Spirit is,

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control…”

Galatians 5:22

The fruit of Jezebel is people-control. It causes a desire to control the surroundings and even people, while never producing “self-control.”

3. It Causes Fear, Flight, and Discouragement

Jezebel is good at causing intimidation in people.

Scripture highlights that she didn’t kill Elijah, she simply sent a messenger to discourage him and make him run in fear of his life.

Elijah was afraid when he got her message, and he ran to the town of Beersheba in Judah. He left his servant there, then walked another whole day into the desert. Finally, he came to a large bush and sat down in its shade. He begged the Lord, “I’ve had enough. Just let me die! I’m no better off than my ancestors.”

1 Kings 19:3-4

Elijah was a powerful man of God. He brought fire down from heaven with his command; he seemed fearless! However, this threat was enough to instill fear and even depression in his life. This happened shortly after he had such a great victory on Mount Carmel (1 Kings 18).

A lot of times, after great victories, this spirit will try and bring deep despair to a person. They might even feel as though they don’t want to live, and it causes cycles of burnout.

If the enemy can’t attack you head-on, he will wear you out.

Learn to find comfort in the still, quiet voice of the Holy Spirit.

4. It Seduces and Provokes Sexual Immorality

Revelation says,

…You allow Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and seduce My servants to commit sexual immorality…

Revelation 2:20

Many of us have heard stories of men of God who have fallen into this sin. They have been seduced, have come under discouragement, and have fallen into the enemy’s trap.

When Jehu came to destroy Jezebel, she came out of the window and made sure to have makeup on. Her plan was to seduce Jehu.

Jezebel is after ministers of God. This is very common because of the authority in which they stand. When someone in authority falls, the news doesn’t just affect the immediate family, but they also affect those who believed in them and followed their ministry.

Take time to pray for your pastors, for the men and women God has placed in leadership roles around you. The higher that God takes a person, the more the enemy wants to attack them and so they will fall into sin, affecting the faith of many as a result.

When David committed sexual immorality with Bathsheba, the Lord said,

However, because by this deed you have given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme…”

2 Samuel 12:14

His sin had given leeway for others to doubt and blaspheme the God that David served. The enemy will often use this tactic to cause ministers of God to fall into pornography, adultery, and other sexual sins.

5. Teaches False Doctrine

In the Old Testament, Jezebel was in full control of religion. Not only was she a queen, but Scripture describes her as a religious leader in charge of many prophets who worked alongside her to control the religious climate of that time.

In Revelation, we see the same thing. She calls herself a prophetess, and we see that she is influential enough to persuade the culture of the church through her teachings.

Jezebel is someone who preaches other truths other than the Gospel. No matter how good a person’s outward appearance is, if the doctrine they are presenting goes contrary to that of Scripture, steer clear from them and their message.

Jezebel is not just seductive and controlling, it also has the characteristic of a teacher. Always be cautious that you don’t fall under the influence of Jezebel by teaching something that is not true according to the Scriptures.

6. Loves Leadership Positions

Jezebel was not just a servant; she was a queen. In Revelation, we see that she was a prophetess. I am always cautious when I see young men or women who seem to love the spotlight. They can’t live without a microphone or a podium because it feeds a sense of worth and value.

It is dangerous to feed this insecurity through this means. By doing so, you can unknowingly allow this spirit to overtake you, and begin to influence the church and the kingdom of God through your desire for fame. Then, instead of being used by God, you will be a puppet for the enemy’s schemes.

7. Thrives Where Leadership is Weak

For every Jezebel, there is an Ahab.

Ahab has a very passive character and was unwilling to confront Jezebel. God had to send Jehu to take her out because Ahab couldn’t.

Jezebel thrives in areas where leadership is afraid of confrontation.

When leadership is passive and fears any conflict that may occur when confronting Jezebel, they are acting just as Ahab did–enabling.

We don’t have to love confrontation, but part of the challenge of being in leadership in the church or being a pastor is spotting and confronting Jezebel. To do that you must have the spirit of Elijah, the characteristic that he displayed when he fought the evil brought about by her.

Before you run off and confront everyone that you don’t get along with within the church, deal with Jezebel within your own life. Certain habits, desire for control, discouragements, sexual sins, desires for fame– deal with these areas first before you deal with them in others. Afterward, don’t be afraid of men, but confront those behaviors.

8. Not Repentant

Jezebel is usually not repentant. We see in 1 King that she never repented, she had to be punished. And in the book of Revelation, God gives her a chance to repent, but she was unwilling.

I have given her time to repent of her immorality, but she is unwilling.

Revelation 2:21

There are consequences to allowing this wicked spirit to operate in your life. If you notice your behavior being influenced by this spirit, or others around you, repent and confront that witch head-on.

Don’t give a place to Jezebel in your life.

You can overcome Jezebel by the blood of Jesus, repentance of sin, and seeking to bear the fruit of the Holy Spirit.

Ezekiel 14:

1 Now some of the elders of Israel came to me and sat before me.

2 And the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

3 Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their hearts,

and put before them that which causes them to stumble into iniquity.

Should I let Myself be inquired of at all by them?

4 Therefore speak to them, and say to them, Thus says the Lord God:

Everyone of the house of Israel who sets up his idols in his heart,

and puts before him what causes him to stumble into iniquity,

and then comes to the prophet, I the Lord will answer him who comes,

according to the multitude of his idols

that I may seize the house of Israel by their heart, because they are

all estranged from Me by their idols.”

6 “Therefore say to the house of Israel, ‘Thus says the Lord God:

Repent, turn away from your idols,

and turn your faces away from all your abominations.

7 For anyone of the house of Israel, or of the strangers who dwell in Israel,

who separates himself from Me and sets up his idols in his hear

and puts before him what causes him to stumble into iniquity,

then comes to a prophet to inquire of him concerning Me,

I the Lord will answer him by Myself.

8 I will set My face against that man and make him a sign and a proverb,

and I will cut him off from the midst of My people

Then you shall know that I am the Lord.

Hey my brother. I disagree as many others do yet many others do agree about "The Jezebel spirit"

He did say all Churches shall know I am..... That being said there is no scripture for "Jezebel Spirit". We know OT there was a woman "Jezebel" then we know NT Jezebel  " that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess," then how God will kill her children. Seems a real woman to me.  Always hard for me to get "well what Christ was really saying was she was a evil spirit". Again there is nothing in the word of God saying "Jezebel is spirit". I know what they look at what the woman did and then "hey Satan w0uld not that make a great evil spirit?" :)

If we have been around this awhile as I have "Jezebel" many years ago was used against women in the Church as to control them. Then seems that so called "spirit" has grown huge now.. now its not only "in" Churches but Schools, States, even Washington DC!" and now men. Best would it not be to say "I believe Jezebel is a spirit and here's why"?

Wise words Mr. M:

I am not sure this woman was literally named "Jezebel" or it was a name give to her because she reflected the wickedness of the other Jezebel from the OT.  But this “woman” did teach false religion and mislead many to commit fornication and idolatry and she callously refused to repent.   We need to watch our own selves and try to avoid similar tendencies that could, if allowed unchecked, to grow into a way of life that might put us in league with "Jezebel."

Jezebel is used  to represent the "strange woman" the spirit of rebellion not the bride of Christ, Christian the beloved .

From that kind of spirit the Holy Spirit  the false spirit as the spirit of female deity is formed called the queen of heaven (his and hers gods)  the strange woman

She in her rebellion mocks the word of God making it to no effect(worthless)  so that they can serve thier own sinful flesh and see no evil in doing so

Jerimiah 44:15 Then all the men which knew that their wives had burned incense unto other gods, and all the women that stood by, a great multitude, even all the people that dwelt in the land of Egypt, in Pathros, answered Jeremiah, saying, As for the word that thou hast spoken unto us in the name of the Lord, we will not hearken unto thee. But we will certainly do whatsoever thing goeth forth out of our own mouth, to burn incense unto the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her, as we have done, we, and our fathers, our kings, and our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem: for then had we plenty of victuals, and were well, and saw no evil.

Proverbs 2:16To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words;

Proverbs 5:3 For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil:

Proverbs 5:20 And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger?

@TheBlade, @BibleStudent100, @garee,

One thing that I noted from this is in vs. 20 & 21, there is a temptation for the Lord's servants to commit sexual immorality (or, fornication), but after being "cast into a bed", there is now the full knowledge that to continue in this way is infidelity of the Bride, as the offense in v. 22 is "those who commit adultery", and their portion is nothing less that "great tribulation".

Ephesians 2:2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now works in the children of disobedience:

Regardless of the terminology used, the spirit of Jezebel,  of rebellion, of the sons of Belial, workers of iniquity, or lawlessness, etc...what is certain is that these spirits are all active in the world, and the Church needs to see the cultural, social, and political agendas and keep them out of the Church, lest they be labeled "adulterers".

James 4:4 Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.

I believe it's a demon cause the father from Jezebel was into occultism, she was. If this was just a dumb dominant woman threatening Elijah he would have said move it. It was a demonic attack, demon inspired. In the N.T. you see the same or a similar demon in the wife of Herod who had John the baptist killed.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
