 1 Peter 1
King James Bible  Par ▾

Greetings from Peter

(2 Peter 1:1-2)

1Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, 2Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.

A Living Hope

3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, 5Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. 6Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: 7That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ: 8Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory: 9Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.

10Of which salvation the prophets have inquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you: 11Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow. 12Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.

A Call to Be Holy

(Hebrews 12:14-17)

13Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; 14As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: 15But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; 16Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

17And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear: 18Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; 19But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: 20Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, 21Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.

The Word of the Lord Stands Forever

(Isaiah 40:6-8)

22Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently: 23Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

24For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:

25But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

If and when a person is born again. It will be obvious.

Their empathy and compassion will be real.

The flesh will have no dominion over them.

They will overcome sin, in fact, the old sin and nature will be abhorrent to them.

Jesus led captivity captive. He makes all things new... The old has gone, the new has come

Hi, Don't think so. For though fully justified  by way of Yeshua's willing sacrifice, each individual still has a long sojourn, a sanctification, that is a progressing process to perfection. In that process there is still a mighty conflict ongoing, within each  born again individual.

Awareness of sin, and it's eternal consequence, does not  equate to sinlessness, only that sin is an evil that cannot be overcome except by the covering of blood of an innocent lamb, the passover lamb Yeshua.

His sacrifice did not erase sin, for I have sinned, I do sin, I will sin. This is my fate while in this corrupted flesh that Yeshua has covered, along with it's consequence, it's penalty, fully in the sight of God, Father Son and Holy Spirit.

I know that I will sin this very day. I know Yeshua has me covered, that I may survive eternally because of His sacrifice alone, and not by my perfection  nor my merit.

I do have need to ask of my Lord each day, "Is it good between you and me? "What need  I learn about  and or change  this day even?" As a simple tune suggests, I have need to  have a little talk with Jesus....

I cannot stand on my own, not at all! What has changed in me on being born again is the love of the changes I need be making each day.

The empathy and compassion of an atheist may be equally as real as any Christian's might be .

I want to hear how you place God first in everything and in every way in life, in accordance with the Commandment Jesus gave His followers.

Mat. 22:36-38 (ESV)

“Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment

Please kindly explain how you accomplish this without sinning?

This is the new commandment that Jesus gave in mark 12:30. 'You shall Love The Lord, with all your heart, soul, mind and strength'. Jesus added 'mind' to the original commandment. That's our volition or will.

We need to 'want' to put God first, before we start.

To 'be on The Lord's side' takes effort.

Paul taught believers to 'take every thought captive, to the obedience of Jesus Christ'.

This is v. difficult to do, but practice, in this case, really does make perfect.

a 'known' transgression is a bit different to a sin of ignorance.

both are sins, but we can only control what we know is a sin. we humans can actually control our sins. Just by saying no!, choosing life, etc.

How about you? How do you manage to put God first?

I have known empathetic atheists. They usually empathise with animals more than people. They "Worship the creature, rather than The Creator" (rom 1)

A born again Christian has a heart changed by The Holy Spirit of God- they automatically become more like Jesus.

Outside of Jesus, humanity is plain selfish (self-centred Christians, are not born again)

Hi Duck,

I rely on His grace and mercy. I agree about controlling what stays in my mind, but I fall short in keeping the Eternal above everything else in my every waking moment. If I could walk without sin, there wouldn't be any reason for relying upon Jesus.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
