A T & T is asking the State utilities to quit being a provider for landlines in my area.

If A T & T's request is granted, I have to go to using a cell phone.

Can anyone give me some information about free government phones? I am on Social Security as a senior citizen....does that qualify me for the free phone?

Or are there cheaper phone plans that have good reception? How about Consumer Cellular?

I use Tello for my cell phone, I use the minimalist plan (hundred minutes a month no data and unlimited texts I think) but I am a very light cell phone user and keep one only for emergency use and don;t usually even turn it on.  they have other plans, all very inexpensive and tailorable to you actual needs.  My plan is 5 bucks a month (plus about 50% in assorted fed, state and city taxes)

Since you have internet access you might look into Ooma, it's a voip system that is quite reliable and also quite inexpensive.  I've used it for years now and I pay around a hundred dollars a year with some upgraded services (I think the minimal service of a number and a connection is ultra cheap).  You can transfer your current phone number to it if you don't want to deal with a new number.

Assurance Wireless is the gateway for the subsidized phone program, sister. It's called "Lifeline." Their web page, www.assurancewireless.com, is where you can determine eligibility and apply. Each state has their own requirements; their page leads you to sites specific to your state.

Off the top of my head, SS income is a qualifier. Many of our clients are on this program.

I think Lifeline is set to expire in a few months (April) and applications to receive it are going to cease being accepted in the very near future.

That's not the only option to be pursued. The state of California operates its own program --- called California LifeLine --- which is independent of the federal program. I never supply links on the forum but to help our sister @Debp gain access, refer to the following:

The California LifeLine program; www.californialifeline.com/en

United Ways of California portal for low-cost internet access; broadband.unitedwaysca.org/resources

I pray that you'll find this useful, sister.

I've always been concerned by my access to benefits that non-military vets cannot receive. Every phone provider I've dealt with offers a substantial discount to military vets; I pay $55 per month for a decent phone plan, $30 less than non-military vets must pay. A large ISP in this city provides me with broadband internet access for $9.95 per month. In this case, only native Americans on the reservations share in this program. This is not a federal or state program... it's something that the ISP does on their own accord.

Where do you get your internet from?

just a note that if you are just replacing a landline, I replaced mine with a Magicjack voice over IP line several years ago.  The magicjack hardware costs $50 and that includes the first year of service.  You can even keep your present phone number for a bit extra.  Renewal after that first year is $99 for three years.  That would be $2.75 a month.

You do have to have a good internet access to use this method.

My neighbor actually lets me use his wifi.   Because our rent is very high here so I budget.

I think I read that if you are on Social Security that you can get an Obama phone...the free government phone.

Mom and I never qualified for California Lifeline for our landline as our combined income was a little bit more than allowed.   Our current bill is $49 a month....A T &T keeps raising it.

I was looking up the free cell phones for my elderly uncle in Arizona (he died this past February 2023).   He used to pay for phone cards....the cheap phone he had also would give free government cell phones under a different division.   Can't remember the name right now.   But he never got the free one as he then was too ill and ready to pass on.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this study, I'll be focusing on Daniel and his picture of the resurrection and its connection with Yeshua (Jesus).

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
