Job 1:21
And he said, “Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked shall I return. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.”
I have heard two different interpretation of this verse and which is completely confusing to me.
What does this scripture says about God's actions?
Some say this scripture means God has given everything and God can take it away those things.
Some say that it means God  gives good things(prosperity, healing, wisdom etc) and God takes away other things (sickness, depression, worries, sorrows, pain, bad situations, fear, financial lacks etc etc).
So what is the true essence and meaning behind this scripture.  I want to know true heart of God. Its okay if its something different than I usually perceived before. I am open to adapt.
What matters most with these kind of scripture is that we need to know what does it says to us about God. How can  we get more closer to Him.

Stewardship or the lack thereof may determine what is given may be lost.

                                 The Parable of the Talents

14“Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them. 15To one he gave five bags of gold, to another two bags, and to another one bag, a each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey. 16The man who had received five bags of gold went at once and put his money to work and gained five bags more. 17So also, the one with two bags of gold gained two more. 18But the man who had received one bag went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money.

19“After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them. 20The man who had received five bags of gold brought the other five. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with five bags of gold. See, I have gained five more.’

21“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’

22“The man with two bags of gold also came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with two bags of gold; see, I have gained two more.’

23“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’

24“Then the man who had received one bag of gold came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. 25So I was afraid and went out and hid your gold in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.’

26“His master replied, ‘You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed? 27Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest.

28“ ‘So take the bag of gold from him and give it to the one who has ten bags. 29For whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them. 30And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

                         Matthew 25, 14-30                 (Poor stewardship)

Every blessing, no matter how small, should be used with all our heart and passed on whenever possible.
Unto God's Glory, giving Thanks always...

Gracejj -

Job has just had EVERYTHING taken away from him.  And it wasn't bad things like disease or hardship.

It was all of his good things that was taken away.

7,000 sheep

3,000 camels

500 yoke of oxen

500 female donkeys

Numerous servants

7 sons

3 daughters

In a matter of a few hours, he lost it ALL.  God allowed it all to be taken away from him and his wife.

God gives blessing and curses.  God takes away blessing and curses.

His reasons are his own.

It could be he meant God gave him Life on earth to have many experiences other than just good alone and God takes that life when he wants to.  We do not know why some go young and other go old, we may learn that later. Also God knew that Job would not give up on his beliefs.

@NConly Job is a very old and profound book; the way God sustained his faith during severe trials striking.

What matter most with these kind of scripture is that we need to know what does it says to us about God. How can  we get more closer to Him.

As with many other scriptures no one truly knows because its not answered.  If we look at GOD through out the bible He always gives and never takes back what He gives. Be kind a twisted if you asked me to have a God that gives and takes then we have the enemy that kills, steals and destroys. Hmm steals.. wonder if you can get what is taken back? :)  Yet Christ came to give us life.. how would we define that? That word was said by GOD what did He mean by give us life and more abundantly, anyway. Again remined of David where God told him what He gave him and remember David was no saint yet God said if that had not been enough I would have given you much more. Look at Solomon and others God blessed. Now to know God has no favorite Children not one. What He does for one He will do for all.

There are many different explanations about this verse. Since no one truly sees and knows all.. simple would be God gave me this life and now I die.. He took it. He did take "sickness, depression, worries, sorrows, pain, bad situations, fear, financial lacks, shame" so forth so on since those things were never from God.

Hi @TheBlade There is a sense in which God sovereignty and the vast range of human experience (look at the Psalms, for example.....) runs to timeless proportions....and yet the Lord Jesus transcends them all.......

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
