As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up and why?

"Sexual health". As a specialty, it barely exists outside the UK, but it covers sexually transmitted infections, HIV and contraception.

I came into it by "chance" (I'd just moved house, and was looking for part-time work), but never left. Office hours are very convenient when you're a mother.

My brother was like that. There was never a time he did not think he would be a doctor. My dad was the opposite, he never though about it and was surprised when the army offered to pay for his medical school. Which he did take the opportunity. His grandfather was a doctor and he would spend summers with him. So I am surprised it never occurred to him. He thought he would be teacher or a principal. Of course there s a lot of teaching involved but he loved procedure. Broken bones, sowing cuts, minor operations. Back in the day doctors did it all.

I wanted to be a mother, but being a mother was not in God's plans. I ended up working with kids with behavior issues in group homes for 15 years. He then moved me on to working with developmentally disabled adults (which I consider as kids) for 7 years and now I am working as a CNA (8 years so far) Most of my residents have dementia (which I consider as kids) With all of this being said, I guess one could say, I have had kids, just not my own, and to be honest with you, even though a part of me wishes I could have been a mother to my own kids,  another part of me thanks God that I wasn't, and not because  I don't like kids, because I love them 💙
