Must I really refrain from all tv and films that have "bad" stuff in it? Is it a grey area? What about "fatal Attraction"? it is a film about adultery and has sex in it, but it really shows how ugly and dark an affair can be, so maybe it is not a bad film to watch?

Thank you DaughterofKing!!! Thank you for starting a topic very close to my heart. I encourage you to excercise discernment. For me, baring pornography, there is NO HARM in watching a movie once. If you are smart enough to just watch, and not act on it. ie. Just because Freddy Kruger kills people. That does not mean you should too, ok? THANK G_D I have always, ALWAYS, found a redeeming quality of one form or another in the movies I have watched. Like Philipians Chapter 4 Verse 8, contained in my signature. I always try to focus on the good stuff.

I know someone who NEVER watches an 'R' rated movie. She never even watched Passion of the Christ. And she is a Christian like myself. She has my admiration on the fact she did not bow to peer-pressure. But there is far worse stuff in some of the 'PG' and 'PG-13's out there.

Personally I never saw Fatal Attraction. But your description is accurate.

I would encourage you to see a movie. Any movie, and ask G-d to send the HOLY SPIRIT to show you the positive things that you can take away from a film. I did this with the deservedly 'R' rated "SIN CITY". And I loved the movie. I also took away lessons about love, honor, faithfulness, integrity, and some other great lessons.

Views vary among Christians, however in my experience we tend to become the images with which we choose to fill our minds....whether we like them, or whether we hate them.

For many years before Jimmy Swaggert took his tumble, I was fearful for him. He was hailed as a great preacher (and truly he is). But he railed a great deal against sexual immorality. So much so, that I realized--even though he hated them--he was filling his thought life with this stuff, and I knew it would come back to haunt him.

So.....questionable movies? Just be careful.

For years I was a great fan of the old soap Dallas being old enough to catch the later episodes and have the benefit of watching the older ones in reruns. For some reason I simply cannot watch it now; I don't know why but something within me stops me from watching it. I will watch things sometimes with mild language in them but you have to be careful; what you entertain in your mind can be a stumbling block for the enemy to use. If you're overly bothered by offensive language, you can buy a TV Guardian which hooks up between your satellite/cable and TV. It will block out most offensive words and use of God's name in vain. Even some of the cheaper VCR's at Wal-Mart (Panasonic brand is one) have TVG for tapes that you rent or record and works the same exact way except it will not block programming that is being played live and not on tape.

One of my favorite Christian radio stations plays a commercial about how our minds are like a camera. Our mind takes pictures of what it sees.It says for us to be careful where we point the lens  Some images that we store up won't be forgotten....if we have a problem with temptations or lust we shouldn't watch certain t.v shows or movies.I don't like t.v anymore because of the filth it shows.I know some will say,"turn the station",but sometimes satan rears his ugly head..he gets you when you are flipping the channels. You find yourself "glancing"at certain forbidden things and before you know it you have watched the whole entire show.

I usually watch the Food channel or National Geographic Channel, Learning Channel, Animal Planet, A & E, History Channel and Home & Garden Channel. I just hate it toward the end of the month because by then I've usually watched everything!

Watching a movie like fatal attraction for the purpose of educating ones self about the cons of adultry is kinda like passing out condoms and hoping kids will make the 'right decision'.

The word of God already tells us what we need to know about the affects of sin, and our conscience confirms it, so we are without excuse.

alright never mind fatal attraction, but then there are films like office space, funny comedies that seem innocent enough but that none the less suggest a lot of bad things. i mean, am i to refrain from these films and tv shows? Last night i was watching a show about a gay kid who returns home to help his newly divorced family and his crazy mom and his adulterer dad who is having a new baby with his mistress. I mean obviously there is a lot of sin there. But it is a comedy. And it is funny. so i mean, i dont think that I will go out and become gay or anything because of watchng this show. And I think the show makes it clear that this is a crazy family. Its not like the show is saying, this is normal! I dont know...

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
