Is there a sort of man that is ideal to marry?

Aside from the obvious--( He must be Christian, financially secure, etc.) Is there a sort of man that is ideal to marry? Are there any types to avoid?

A husband must be of good moral character. As a born again Christian that is, what was before salvation doesnt matter to God since the sins are forgiven, so why should it matter to us. He needs to be a commited Christian. My personal stand is that a divorced man is not an option, but not everyone believes that way. The most important thing would be to pray before entering into a relationship. Let the Lord guide you to someone He wants for you.

Is it superficial to love a man because he is incredibly smart?

I dont think so. You have to be able to talk to your spouse. I would always seek His will in any relationship DoK. Is this man the one for you? Ask God first.

Besided the obvious, it reallly depends on the person. In my mind for a man to be your ideal match for you, these things are good to have:

1. Your stregnths and weakness compliment each other, where you are weak, he is strong and the other way around

2. A strong trust between the two of you, being able to talk about things and be honest with each other.

3. Some simmaler interests. No, you don't need to love EVERYTHING that he does, but it's good to have some common ground that you know you can always meet on

As for the guy himself, I would have to say the biggest thing to look for is a man who is sure of himself. Beleive me, I've dated quite a few guys who are VERY emotionally insecure, and it was exausting to always build them up. He doesn't have to be completely secure, but if he's really needy he's going to take more than he will give.

In the end it's really up to your preferances. Always pray to God before you enter a relationship, and ask Him if it is right - that is the most important thing of all

I think brains are more important than looks in a guy.

Some qualities to look for: Honesty, humility, hard-working, dedicated, etc.

Some to watch out for: Manipulative, self-seeking, abusive (in any way), unforgiving...

*sigh* really, this is a tough issue...there is no perfect guy out there, but tehre are definitely some qualities (those I listed, and more) that you want to watch out for. Basically, get to know a guy REALLY well before deciding to marry him. Of course, you'll probably spend your whole life learning about him, but in the meantime, look for a guy who loves God and earnestly seeks to do His will. Prayerfully consider whether he is the one for you, remembering always that you are a child of the King, so that you won't fall into the trap of thinking you don't deserve better than an abusive guy, or believe any one of the lies the enemy tries to tell you.
