Wow, Trav! Where did you find that geneology info? That's pretty interesting info!

BTW, did you know that King Saul was mortally wounded by an Amalakite? smashfreakB.gif

***************

Well, this isn't obscure or hidden, but just a different way of looking at things.

1) Angel: "Hail Gideon, mighty warrior!"

Gideon: "Where?" ::looks around::

2) At the house where the believers are gathered together to pray for Peter who had been imprisoned by Herod, where Peter goes to after the angel frees him.

Peter: Knock! Knock!

Rhoda: "Who is it?"

Peter: "It's me, Peter."

Rhoda: "Wheeee!" Runs from door to tell the others.

Peter: "Uh, Rhoda?" Knock! Knock! Knock! "Hello? Rhoda?" Knock! KNock! Knock! "Rho-o-o-o-o-d-d-a-a-a-a!" Knock! Knock!

3) I love this one. Jonah disobeys God by travelling by ship to Joppa instead of going to Nineva - because Jonah hated Nineva and did not want to see them repent and be saved. So, God sends a storm. This storm is so bad, the ship is in danger of sinking. All the maen of the boat are praying to their (false) gods to no avail. Eventually, Jonah tells the men he's to blame for this storm. His description of God (I believe he described him as the Maker of Heaven and Earth) put fear (awe) into the hearts of these men - well, I'm sure the evidence of the storm helped!

But this is what is interesting. These pagan men whose lives are at stake choose to try to save Jonah rather than sacrifice him to save their own skins! Did you ever catch that? (Hmmm, a lesson to Jonah perhaps?)

It's only after they realize the cause is completely lost that they do as Jonah suggested and throw him overboard. Even as they did, they cried out to God - not their personal gods, but the true God - for mercy and forgiveness for doing what they had to do. After the "large fish" (whether it was a whale or not, I don't know) swallowed Jonah and teh storm suddenly stopped, these men gave their worship to God, the Maker of Heaven and Earth, whose mighty work they had seen! Isn't that cool?

UHHHHHHHHHHHHhh NEB.. ME thinketh thou hast lost-eth-your-eth- mind-eth---:rofl::rofl:

Here's a little thing that has impressed me -

  • Lu 5:4 Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.
5 And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.
6 And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.
7 And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink.

The detail is simple, Jesus told them to let down their nets, all of them . . . but Peter only let down one net as he felt it was a futile exercise. It broke the net and almost sank two boats!

It is best to obey God regardless of what we think we know is going on.

Peace.

Wow Blindseeker! Thanks! Peter singularized Jesus' plurality! No kidding! I have not noticed that before. Now, how many times have we done that? Out of lack of faith we reduce (or try to ) the blessings that He wants to give us?

Brother William - that's a whole sermon right there!:blink:

Thanks you Brother!

Okay, this one isn't too hidden, but I think it's pretty cool.

David grew from a boy to a king. He had help along the way. Pretty awesome help actually. When he was a fugitive from Saul and hiding in the caves, a ragtag crew of misfits sought him out. Acutally, they are described thusly: (oooh (thusly) - -see the lingo I use when I go back to the OT! )

1Sam 22:1-2 David therefore departed thence, and escaped to the cave Adullam: and when his brethren and all his father's house heard [it], they went down thither to him.

And every one [that was] in distress, and every one that [was] in debt, and every one [that was] discontented, gathered themselves unto him; and he became a captain over them: and there were with him about four hundred men.

Okay - from this we see that it started off with about 400 men. Of course we know that it grew. Did it ever! It became so big that David structured a heirarchy of officers to train and instruct the "grunts." As David's army grew and prospered, it also became quite skilled. 37 men stood out as men of exceptional valor. Of those, there were two sets of groups of three. The top three were closest to David. These men were awesome! 2Sam 23:8-12

Adino, the Eznite: the leader of the Three, killed eight humdred at one time

Next in line was Eleazar, who. during a battle with the Philistines, fought "until his hand was weary, and his hand clave unto the sword:and the LORD wrought a great victory that day;" Now, during this particular fight, all the people left him. They ran off and left him. He stayed and fought on, winning with the Lord's help. The people came back to plunder the dead after the battle was over.

Next was Shammah the son of Agee the Hararite. Similar to Eleazar's story, Shammah was fighting the Philistines and again the people ran off. He stayed in the MIDDLE of the Philistines and killed them.

These three appear to be not ordinary men, but of exceptional courage, strength and valor.

Now, there are plenty of angles that I can think of concerning these men, but the one I'd like to bring out right now is this: God trains his people, just as David trained his men. These men lived in caves away from their families. We don't know the hardships they endured, but common sense tells us it was not easy. The built their forces and endured. In God's time, they left the caves a mighty army. In God's time, they changed from a small group of misfits, to a mighty formidable force.

And here's my favorite part.

1Ch 12:22-40 For at [that] time day by day there came to David to help him, until [it was] a great host, like the host of God.

And these [are] the numbers of the bands [that were] ready armed to the war, [and] came to David to Hebron, to turn the kingdom of Saul to him, according to the word of the LORD.

The children of Judah that bare shield and spear [were] six thousand and eight hundred, ready armed to the war.

Of the children of Simeon, mighty men of valour for the war, seven thousand and one hundred.

Of the children of Levi four thousand and six hundred.

And Jehoiada [was] the leader of the Aaronites, and with him [were] three thousand and seven hundred;

And Zadok, a young man mighty of valour, and of his father's house twenty and two captains.

And of the children of Benjamin, the kindred of Saul, three thousand: for hitherto the greatest part of them had kept the ward of the house of Saul.

And of the children of Ephraim twenty thousand and eight hundred, mighty men of valour, famous throughout the house of their fathers.

And of the half tribe of Manasseh eighteen thousand, which were expressed by name, to come and make David king.

And of the children of Issachar, [which were men] that had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do; the heads of them [were] two hundred; and all their brethren [were] at their commandment.

Of Zebulun, such as went forth to battle, expert in war, with all instruments of war, fifty thousand, which could keep rank: [they were] not of double heart.

And of Naphtali a thousand captains, and with them with shield and spear thirty and seven thousand.

And of the Danites expert in war twenty and eight thousand and six hundred.

And of Asher, such as went forth to battle, expert in war, forty thousand.

And on the other side of Jordan, of the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and of the half tribe of Manasseh, with all manner of instruments of war for the battle, an hundred and twenty thousand.

All these men of war, that could keep rank, came with a perfect heart to Hebron, to make David king over all Israel: and all the rest also of Israel [were] of one heart to make David king.

And there they were with David three days, eating and drinking: for their brethren had prepared for them.

Moreover they that were nigh them, [even] unto Issachar and Zebulun and Naphtali, brought bread on asses, and on camels, and on mules, and on oxen, [and] meat, meal, cakes of figs, and bunches of raisins, and wine, and oil, and oxen, and sheep abundantly: for [there was] joy in Israel.

Sound like a type of the marriage feast to you?

See how the army grew? Notice how they were in one accord? Notice how they were trained and ready for battle? These men are remembered for all time. Notice the list again. They are listed as ready for battle, with sword and shield.

Are you?

Okay - here's another one. I think I'm talking to myself in this thread, but that's okay 'cause I'm a good listener! :t2:

Elijah is a fascinating study for me. That guy was gutsy! (is that a word?) He had a lot of rather spectacular experiences and he stood up to some rather fierce opponents. But, in the beginning of his ministry, it was a training period. God gave Elijah a word to give to Ahab, the king. God said that it would not rain in the land and there would not even be any dew. So, Elijah tells the king this and then goes into hiding. (This was not a good message to deliver. :t2: )

1Ki 17:2-7 And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying,

Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that [is] before Jordan.

And it shall be, [that] thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.

So he went and did according unto the word of the LORD: for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that [is] before Jordan.

And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook.

And it came to pass after a while, that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land.

The brook dried up. I don't know about y'all, but I've certainly had my brook dry up before! Why would the Lord tell him to go there to hide when He knew the brook was going to dry up? Perhaps it was a test of obediance? Elijah was learning to be totally dependant on God alone. Perhaps God was building Elijah's faith and trust in God's word. After all, Elijah was certainly going to be put to the test when he eventually faced off with the prophets of baal. So he waited twice every day for the birds to bring him food. Can you imagine the faith that took? He had to see the brook becoming more and more shallow. He knew it was drying up. Yet he waited on a word from God on what next to do.

I find this simple story amazing. It is comforting to know that when our brook dries up, it is not necessarily the end of the story, but quite possibly just the beginning. God is good. :t2:

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
