Don't mean to be sarcastic but does that mean we should put adulterous adults, non-obedient children and practicing homosexuals to death? Those were the rules.

Don't mean to be silly, but I'll bet the world would be a better place if we did.... :noidea:

There is a wacko out in Oklahoma who would agree with you. But I am certain you would also be guilty of one of those laws of OT Israel and therefore would qualify for a death sentence yourself. You might want to check all of those out before you say you would want to live under them. Have you always kept the Sabboth perfectly holy? No? Then we must put you to death with the homosexuals and the adulterors too I guess.

Of course I assume you were only joking but around here I have seen some strange things so one never knows for sure!

Let me see...

My oldest son was about 3 I believe it was and we had been into the hippy culture for a while..

we moved into a house where some wonderful Christian folks lived and we knew God wanted us out of the life we were living and they invited us to church and our lives were altered forever..

and it was then they prayed for us and we began speaking in Tongues..

I had been to a Pentecostal Church once as a child with my parents ant it was then that I knew speaking in tongues was a manifestation of the Spirit..

I just knew in my heart what I saw and heard was of God...

it was not until an adult that I was able to move in that gift... :P

Tah,

That is about the most beautiful testimony I have heard....I love Pentacostal and their freedom to celebrate our Lord.. :noidea:

Jesus told us what our commandments are.....and so did God...The good old Ten Commandments will ALWAYS apply as will the Commands of Jesus..Those things don't change ever...what changed is quite simple: Jesus came to be our mediator so that we are not still put to death for the above offenses, St Worm...God's word will never change, He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow..therefore his rules set before us do not change either.

As for speaking in tongues I truly believe that God gives that gift through the Holy Spirit but I have never asked for the gift.

But Jesus is the mediator for sinners in the OT too. They were just on the other side of the cross. The poster said all the Bible was applicable for us today so therefore speaking in tongues today must be valid. I was just challenging that argument.

Also I would say the OT law of Israel is not valid for believers but if we go with his reasoning then those OT laws are still valid.

I see your point. And if not for the Grace of God there go I.....

I do speak in tongues. I'll never forget that day. It was sometime in July of the year 2000. My teacher at school(I'm in a Christian school) prayed with me. And since then I've been able to speak in tongues. Being in the presence of God is a wonderful thing, wouldn't you say?

"...if a person discounts one of the Gifts of the Spirit, they might as well discount all of them and forget about asking..."says Mr and Mrs Mike Irish.

This is the kind of additude that is so very prevalent among the elite. The elite that I was associated with for so many years and am proud now, not to be a part of.

O.K. let's say that tongues are for today because Paul speaks of tongues and gives outlines for their use. And that it is directed to the church at large, or the Body of Christ as a whole for all time.

Alright?

So...let's also keep this statment as is also; same letter, same audiance, same chapter, same apostle:

34. Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law.

35. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.

Remember, God is the same, yesterday, today and forever.............If we are going to say that what is explained in chapter 14 is not for the benifit of a church with a blend of those who spoke in tongues and those who did not; and hold the hard line that there is no room for any other position. Then verses 34 and 35 had better get just as staunch of a position, and be held fast in the same manner.

Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

This verse has been quoted to support tongues, it is totally taken out of context. Read for yourself:

7. Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation.

8. Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. 9. Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein.

10. We have an altar, whereof they have no right to eat which serve the tabernacle.

11. For the bodies of those beasts, whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest for sin, are burned without the camp.

12. Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate.

13. Let us go forth therefore unto him without the camp, bearing his reproach.

14. For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come.

15. By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.

16. But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

The context is to be sure an maintain the truth of the grace of God which has never changed, and that we, like Jesus are to bear his reproach.

We want to know what God has to say don't we?

Following Jesus,

Daave

I have heard many people say that "tongues" is a prayer language and that they have "manifested" from time to time, the ability to speak Gods' language, as it were. I however believe that "tongues" or speaking with "many tongues" is the true gift, where those that have this gift can speak and be understood by believers, regardless what their native language is. I may be mistaken, but untill I witness an occurance that is contrary to what I believe, then I have no choice but to rank the popular form of tongues in there with trances and snake dancing.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this study, I'll be focusing on Daniel and his picture of the resurrection and its connection with Yeshua (Jesus).

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
