Firstly, I've been a Christian for 6 years and I know my walk with the Lord is not what it should be. I think/I know the problem is that even though I don't like to admit it, I think I maybe addicted to porn.

I have a girlfriend, getting married in the near future and she knows nothing about it. I love her more than words can say and know that looking at porn on Tv and on internet is wrong. I keep trying not to do it, have prayed for years for the addiction to be taken away but the urge is so strong. Once I've done it I keep thinking I shouldn't have and feel guilty.

I want to break this as I do feel bad and want to stop dishonouring God and my girlfriend. I've never spoken to anyone about this.

What can I do?

Continue on prayer, and when you get the urge for this thing shout NO!In the name of Jesus!!

That will help a lot with the fight.

Pray to God in the day and night, and also when you get the urge for porn again say You refuse those thoughts in The Name of Jesus!

Prayers and hope God will help you out against your terrenal desires. :P

I had a problem with this, tried everything, nothing seemed to work...

But as I began listening to, and reading, the Word everyday the problem seemed to go away.

I think David was on to something when he said

"The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul"

All temptation will not pass away, but you will find great power over it as the Word speaks to you.

Remember "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."

I love listening to pastor teach the Word, also reading it.

you might try http://www.csnradio.com

there is a great collection of pastors here they almost always got somebody good.

Well the most obvious thing you must do first is stop your "viewing" habits. Complete cessation is all that can possibly help you begin to break the cycle. Yes this creates a withdrawl, yes this sounds easier than it is, but honestly it is the first step. When the urge arrives you must deny yourself the pursuit by any means necessary. The addiction is no different than any other in that there is no "moderate" use of the problem substance or source.

Your prayers are falling short of God as your sin is drowning them out. Your continuance of this behavior in many way says just the opposite to Him, subconciously saying "your power is not capable of helping me stop this because I'm unable to stop it". We are weak, not Him, but we must play by the rules. Stopping this behavior, suffering through the temporary withdrawl, and praying for strength continually will begin to show Him your true intent. He will then begin to work in you to remove the need to do this thing, but YOU need to make the first move. The urge does go away eventually when you change this habit. Satan is a great tempter, don't do his will, do the will of the Lord.

(* p.s. I speak as one who has overcome this issue myself, not as a "theorist" :P )

1Corinthians 6:18-20

18 Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body.

19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own,

20 for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.

May God's strength rest upon you in dealing with this brother

Blessings and peace to you

Christ's servant

God will grant you strength for overcoming as you walk away from the desires and lusts of the flesh. Indeed the answer lies in your choice. As said before, God upholds as you choose.

Firstly addiction is difficult to overcome in any sense be it drugs, alcohol, food, other disorders. Porn may be feeding an emotional need for you which is why it is hard to control. You may want to try and discover what it is you are missing that porn fills for you. As others have said, if you use your computer to view porn... block all the sights, give out a password to someone else you don't know it. Like parental control. The main thing is you are hurting God by disobeying what is good in His sight and you are doing your girlfirend an injustice in not focusing on her as your partner in life. It says in the bible if your right hand sins, cut it off. To me this means cut off any means possible that allow you to view porn, think about porn, write porn, etc.... Replace those thoughts with Jesus and pray pray pray for Him to remove this unholy addiction from your soul. Remember though we are not perfect and yet we have a way to be saved through repentence. If you have to repent moment by moment until you have it under control then that's what you have to do. Turn away from this sin and you will be rewarded. I admire you for admitting to it. That is a good place to start. If you are in denial about it, you may never lose the lust for porn. So admission and seeking help here is a very good start.

I'll pray for you.

Blessings

JED, i would not suggest this for wives, because i know firsthand that preventing a husband from viewing porn online will cause resentment on top of the addiction. but since YOU are the one wanting to quit, i would suggest you download a program called SafeEyes, and find someone to be an accountability partner. maybe someone from this site would be willing. what it does is sends a list of every site you've visited to your accountability partner each week (or day, however you set the preferences). if you wish, you can also adjust the settings so that your wife can monitor your viewing habits. in fact, you can even ask her to block all porn by setting a password that you can't guess.

and PRAY! never doubt the power of prayer... not just your own prayers, but those of others.

on the other site i belong there is a daily prayer thread with a list of porn addicts that several of us pray over every day... literally. many of us choose to post our prayers in written format. that thread is blocked from view of the men... the men's forum may very well have it's own daily prayer thread for those who would like others to pray daily for them. if there's not one, it might be a good thing for someone to start.

if you'd like, i could add your name to the list. many women (whether from our own board or from other boards) who have asked for their husbands to be added have seen remarkable progress. when 2 or more are gathered together in prayer, amazing things happen.

i see you're getting married soon. congratulations. when is your wedding day? if you'll post it, i'll mark my calendar and as a wedding gift i'll send you a link to an interactive game designed to build intimacy in a marriage... written and developed by a Christian couple. it allows a couple to maintain romance while also allowing some fantasy and roleplay without the use of porn or inappropriate language... it's design is to keep the focus entirely on each other. it's highly customizable to a couples preferences, and the wife has more control over gameplay options than the husband does. by the time you get married, an add-on pack should have been released which is specifically for Christians, using Biblical principals and scriptures (a lot of Songs of Solomon), and encouraging a couple to include prayer as part of their intimacy.

i recommend the game for all MARRIED couples, because i've discovered in my own marriage how effective it is in keeping the sparks flying while effectively lessening my husband's desire for pornography.

Lady C,

Is this a game that others can find online? As a Christian, I also find it hard to find things to provide that fun "spark" without bordering on inappropriate material. I would love to find something like that for my husband and myself.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
