Matthew 7:1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.

Often times when a person points out doctrinal error or blatant sin practiced or taught by an individual, organization or group of people someone pulls out Matthew 7 as a verse to silence the person who is exposing the problem.

"Judge not!"

Another verse misquoted and abused is "he who is free from sin let him cast the first stone". John

You're right people take it out of context all the time by not reading the entire passage:

Matt. 7:1ff "Do not judge so that you will not be judged.

For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standardof measure, it will be measured to you.

Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?...

You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye.

We are called to discern and judge according to the Word of God, but we have to have our conscience clean before God before we help a brother out of his sin or warn others to stay away from one who refuses to get rid of his sin so that he does not mislead others. All of this must be done in love and truth.

I cannot beging to come up with all the scripture that would tell us to watch for each other and to exhort each other and to pray for each other..

Telling someone the truth may seem to be judging to the one who desires not to hear the truth but it is life to those who will be turned from their sinful ways..

if our hearts are "judgmental" in a hateful manner then God deal with us and make us clean of this sinful behavour..

if our judgments are true then God turn that heart that needs to hear the truth....

judgement is very important to learn. it is essential, in fact. but what is this judgement for? it is for us to see ourselves clearly first. is this easy to do? no, it clearly is not or the subject would not merit so much attention by the lord jesus. the key is this last statement in john, but you must answer the question, what is righteous judgement? obviously not according to what is easily perceptible. that would be, at best, presumptuous, at worst, some sort of personality disorder or psychosis.

and example of righteous judgement was when jesus told peter that he would deny him. all righteous judgement is true.

This verse has become a catch all to excuse extremely dangerous doctrines which confuse and confound those new or weak in the faith.

Remember Satan can disguise himself as an angel of light and seduce people. Many times his ministers do good works and sound godly in their speech.

2 Corinthians 11:13-15 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

We cannot warn and exhort the church if these folks are not called to task.

If they accept that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God, and his diety, I will leave the final judgement up to Christ as to whether they are saved or not.

Any old wolf in sheeps clothing will tell you that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God, and his diety. I know my old apostate preacher taught that, but he didn't preach the same gospel and it wasn't the same Jesus

If we would preach the gospel and make disciples when such a person hears something that contradicts scripture, they will recognize it. They won't need us to tell them

Thats not true because some believers are very gullible and lack discernment. This is why the body has many parts.

If that is the case Jamie, how do we know who to believe when they tell us someone is false?

I never have to believe or not believe anybody when they tell me someone is a false teacher. I will usually already know in my own spirit one way or another.

There are some things that might not be right that I can look over as long as it doesn't pervert the character of God.

Cults aren't really what I consider dangerous for most christians because they aren't a hidden deception to most people, it's the churches that preach half truths and doctrines that pervert Gods character in subtle ways that are dangerous.

In my old church just the refusal to preach against sin was disastrous, yet the preacher appeared to be the sweetest thing since icecream.

I guess we have to ask ourselves, "is this person preaching the true character of God, His expectations and His holiness"

Jesus also said a house divided against itsself can not stand. If a minister preaches the true plan of salvation, he is not of the Devil. One of Satans servants can not preach the true plan of Salvation. IF a minister teaches the following, he is not of Satan. Jesus is the Son of God. He came to Earth in the Form of a man. He died, rose, and is seated at the Right hand of the father. The only way to salvation is in faith in Him.

Satans servants can not preach the Gospel.

Oh yes they can.

Galatians 1:6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:

Galatians 1:7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.

Galatians 1:8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

Galatians 1:9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

It is possible to preach the gospel and yet add something to it and pervert the gospel.

A false teacher can preach that Jesus died for our sins and that He was buried and rose again from the dead and then add that keeping the law of Moses, circumcision or going to church on Sunday is a "requirment to be saved" and it becomes "another gospel which is not another".

We have the bible as our measuring rod for truth.
