I understand COMPLETELY why God would hate Esau! Esau was an irreverent man, a rebel against God, and a scofflaw toward God's commands. So God hating Esau is not a struggle at all for me to comprehend.

What I CAN'T figure out for the life of me is WHY GOD LOVED JACOB!!!!

If I may use this thread to ask a question, I don't want to spoil the poster's question about Esau...let me know if I should start my own thread...

I have been reading Genesis, and I have not yet seen how Jacob can be a scoundrel. Is it to happen further in the Bible? All I see is that God protected Jacob, enough to give him a new name, "Israel". He blessed him with cattle, and even blessed him further when Laban tried to trick him with his sheep, the spotted ones, etc...

And, why did Jacob call Esau "master", when he went to be with him after leaving Laban?

It seems to me, probably in my ignorance, as I am just beginning to read the Bible, that even though Jacob had two wives, which would be a sin today, God kept blessing Jacob. How can this be?

Rom 9:13 As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.

Rom 9:14 What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid.

Rom 9:15 For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.

Rom 9:16 So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy. (end of Tah's quote that I needed)

So, God chooses to show mercy and compassion only when He wants to? If this is true, which I believe it because it is part of the Bible, then how can I say to someone who is hurting, or believe myself when I am hurting, that God will always be there for you. Do you think that there are circumstances that lead up to God choosing NOT to show mercy or compassion?

Is it almost, when God has had enough of our sin or idolness, that He lets us fend for ourselves, suffer and learn to be humble?

The reason I am asking is I cannot get out of this depression I am in. And, I am afraid that God will soon wash His hands of me, cuz I cannot do anything about my depression, either I cannot or choose not to, not sure which one. Will He stop showing me mercy and compassion?

If this verse is true, then how can we back up the fact that we tell others that "God will always be there for you."

Rachel, Jacob, or Israel, was a type of Jesus ....

You are in Jesus therefore you are not rejected by God...

Rachel, God is not going to wash his hand of you..He loves you...

He sent Jesus to die for you that you might live in eternity with Him..

I do not know what is fueling the depression but rest assured...

you will come out of it and be joyful again..

:emot-hug::wub:

No.. He will not stop calling you to a higher place in the Spirit, in Him..

You are a new creation in Christ Jesus and you have all you need inside you as He is inside you..

Rachel draw from the well within you ...the well of Living Water.....

Heb 8:10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:

Heb 8:11 And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.

Heb 8:12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.

Rom 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Rom 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

Rachel

maybe out of our faith, hope and love we can do these things i don't always have what i desperately need Rachel I lack so very badly and in desperate want as well. my spirit is downcast and i can't put my arms around it and pick it up and stroke it telling it everything going to be alright. I can ask my downcast spirit questions why art thou downcast oh my soul and tell it to hope thou in God is all i can do. maybe you can see that we both can't and this be really true. but i need something to hold onto and i got no sense of family or belonging a midst alot of other stuff and i got nothing else to hold onto so i keep holding on in faith in hope and love even though i am so weak and frail and fail. for this is why because no matter our state His state is true. in response to post 25

You remimded me a great song..

"Why so down cast oh my soul, put your hope in God..."

Psa 42:5 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me?

hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

      Shalom everyone,

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
