I did not say that. The issue is not whether we are saved BY the church. That of course is not true. The issue is whether we can be saved apart from the church.

Also I did not say you were Catholic bashing, but perhaps unintentionally inviting it.

Salvation and the gospel of Christ are in the bible. We are to believe God's word not the teachings of a church.

We are saved by grace through faith. We are not under law. Christians certainly are not under Roman Catholic law.

Galatians 3:10-14 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith. And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them. Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

Rome has another gospel which is not another. For bible believing Christians to join Rome's ecumenical movement would be a betrayal of the cross.

The reformation was not an out flow from Rome but a return to biblical principles. There is no "Pope" in the bible.

The purpose of this thread is to defend and discuss the gospel and show how easily it can be perverted.

Paul seemed to think it was an important issue. The church today is too worried about "getting along" to care.

Galatians 1:6-9 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

Why is it discussing when someone tears down the belief in eternal security but bashing when someone defends the gospel against those who present another?

Has anyone read the Statement of Faith in this forum?

We have a long-standing tradtion here to avoid Catholic bashing. Believe me when I tell that this is the result of a hard-learned lesson. I'm closingthis thread until I can determine whether any comments here constitute Catholic bashing.

UPDATE: I've deceided to re-open this thread. As much as it is humanly possible, please stick only to the issues and doctrines which you are arguing for or against. Remember that "golden rule," and also please realize that it only takes a single negative comment or word to damage your position. Keep the discussion objective and you will be safe.

Having spent years in a cult and then finding "truth" ..."You will know the truth and the truth will set you free" .....Jesus said "I am the way, the TRUTH and the life" I can't imagine EVER uniting with those that distort the gospel !!!

For any that don't realize it, a person that has been under mind control experiences things similar to those who have been under the 'control' of drugs.... it is a battle to not return ...it took me over 3 months !

I will always remember what helped me the most was a visual demonstration a Christian pastor used when speaking on the Word and keeping it pure. You may have seen it, but it was new to me and will be forever in my mind.

He had 5 water glasses in front of him on a table which he filled with 'pure drinking water'. He then opened a paper bag which held compost made mainly with cow manure. He placed a cupful of compost in the first, less in the second, less in the third, a pinch in the forth and left the last one remained untouched. Then he asked "Which would you like to drink from?".....all agreed on the last one of course. He said "Some like the word with a lot of fertilizer in it, some it doesn't matter to them."He added: "I want mine pure"!

Remember the 4th glass even though it looked clean it was still polluted. Some religions use the word "Christian" or "Jesus"in their titles (ex: Jehovah's 'Christian' Witnesses .. which I was for 13 yrs. or The Church of 'Jesus Christ' of Later Day Saints) They 'use' the Bible..or misuse it ..twisting it or they take out this scripture and use it here or even take out or add words (like in John 1:1 :.."and the word was god" and change it to "and the word was 'a' god") or even complete books that they claim are the rest of the Bible.

You decide for yourselves which fount you will drink from, I myself have found the True living water and have tasted and found He is good!
