Well I hope you don't get the wrong answer from someone there Eric. However, your question reminds me of a quote from Bill Bright that I read a few years ago where he said he was on the "spiritual jetstream" and living such a spirit-filled life that he hardly had any sins to confess! Scary stuff. Talk about the glorious hot air balloon.

Let's say you are a Born Again Christian. But you struggle with pornography {or whatever} and say you are watching a porn DVD when all of a sudden the Trumpet Blasts and the Lord is returning to capture His Bride for the Rapture. Would you still go in the rapture or would you be left behind because you were in sin at that time?

1Th 4:16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.

1Th 4:17 Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord.

There's a difference between needing a "bath" and "foot-washing" daily. To imply that a "born-again" is continually involved with viewing porn, is something that needs to be examined and examined closely. I would have to suggest that the person involved with this practice, is NOT a born-again at all. Think of what the term "born-again" implies, and you would acknowledge what I mean. The distinction here is willful sin and sin "lifestyle", not unintentional sin.

What fellowship does light have with dark? Wickedness and righteousness? You might go back and examine the Scriptures I have posted. Again:

What is disturbing to me about this debate is the selfish focus it has with regard to sin.

If I may borrow from a previous quote:

Another example. Would you have a drunk for a preacher at your church? How about an overweight preacher? Both are sins. Drunkeness and gluttony. Why will the church accept one and not the other? Both are the same sin. Sin of abusing the flesh.

I say if I am a glutton, I harm only myself (heart disease, etc.) My physical therapist friend, on the other hand, highly disagrees with this statement (she says with hurt back).

If I am a drunk, I harm myself. But I also endanger those around me. For instance, how do drunken people treat others? Especially family members? What happens when a drunken person drives a car?

If I commit fornication, I harm my body and soul. I also harm the body and soul of the person I committed the sin with. I also harm our future marriages.

If I commit adultary, I commit the same harms, but this now includes a current spouse who is harmed and the children, if there are any.

If I engage in pornogrpahy...?

All I will say is that as a child, a boy playmate found a porn magazine hidden by his father. I'll let your imagination make the connections, but I will leave it at this: I was harmed. Three others were harmed in a different way. I cannot even type this without a release of a flood of unpleasant emotions. So don't anyone even try dare tell me that pornography harms no one but yourself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a good point. There are two separate issues here, that are being confused:

1. The role of sin in the life of the believer as related to their salvation status

2. The role of sin in the life of a believer as related to how they should live as a result of the power of the spirit within them

It seems to me that we are getting the two confused. Sin is terrible and as believers we are to strive to live above it. The bible even states that ongoing, unconfessed, habitual sin in the life of someone professing to be a believer may be a sign that they are in fact not on. On the other hand, Christ dies for sins once for all. Once a person has been truly regenerated, sin cannot then rmove them from that regeneration. Any believer claiming to live without sin is actually deceiving them selves, and not looking hard enough (he said as he chomped down a Quarter pounder with cheese, fries, ....)
