ill check it out some day

I wouldn't, it's a horrible book. :whistling:

A better one would be "The Call" by Os Guinness because it's much more detailed and much more theologically sound.

What is not theologically sound about the book.. I have never heard Pastor Rick Warren called theologically unsound. How so? Examples please ....

For one he argues on page 10 I believe that when God wanted to prepare someone, He took 40 days. This implies that if you really want to be successful you better read his book because it prepares you for 40 days. The problem is this is not always the case...and if someone doesn't feel changed or isn't changed after 40 days, then what?

It's also theologically lopsided...if you read pages 58-59 he talks about salvation, in it he states:

"First, believe. Believe God loves you and made you for his purposes. Believe you're not an accident. Believe you were made to last forever. Believe God has chosen you to have a relationship with Jesus, who died on the cross for you. Believe that no matter what you've done, God wants to forgive you. Second, recieve. Receive Jesus into your life as your Lord and Savior. Recieve his forgiveness for your sins. Recieve his Spirit, who will give you the power to fulfill your life purposes."

He goes on, but in it we see that repentance and self-denial, the keys to salvation (Luke 9:23-24) are missing. Also, where is any explanation for WHY Christ had to die in the first place, or better yet, why I am a sinner. The problem is that when he finally brings up repentence (pg 105 and 182) he makes it seem as if though these are post-salvation events, when they are not. Warren also talks about how God is loving, caring, kind all the time but ignores how God is also holy, just, and righteous. By ignoring this, he offers a very lopsided view of God, one that is incomplete. If you go to modernreformation.org you can look up an interview with Warren where he admits to downplaying the Gospel message on purpose in order to increase his numbers. He brags about how he's baptized 11,000 members...but he never once mentions of any discipleship or if there is true spiritual growth.

I could go on, but you get the picture.

Why did god create us? just wondering i never understood why.

That is a question that many have wondered about over the centuries. There is a great book that addresses this quesiton called "The Purpose Driven Life", that may answer many of the questions you have, why are we here, why were we created, what is our purpose here, how should I live my life? I would highly recommend reading it. I should be a great blessing in your life.

there is one that explains it even better then rick warrens book..... it is called the BIBLE

the angels were created to praise Him, and Honor Him and Worship Him,

we were made so that we could Praise, Honor and Worship Him out of our OWN FREE WILL.....

which would a parent want their child to do...... hug them out of duty? or hug them out of love?

do the dishes because it is manditory, or do them because they wish to please their parents?

God wants us to loveHim, worship Him, praise Him, honor Him, because we want to Please Him, not because we have to.... just like tithing, He would rather we not give one red cent with sense of duty in our hearts, if we can not give it out of love, and desire to please Him....

if I sent you flowers only at your funersal, this is more of a sense of guilt or duty.....

rather, it would be better to send you flowers through out your life so that YOU could enjoy them.... this would be more out of love....

No, I think He wanted us.

Why? If He wanted us would this not make Him imperfect...for perfection means you are without want.

God created us to worship Him and give Him thanks.

Ephesians 1:11-12 - In Him we were also made His inheritance, predestined according to the purpose of the One who works out everything in agreement with the decision of His will, so that we who had already put our hope in the Messiah might bring praise to His glory.

John 4:23, 24 - But an hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth. Yes, the Father wants such people to worship Him. God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.

We have been created to do His will for His purpose.

Phil 2:13 - For it is God who is working in you, [enabling you] both to will and to act for His good purpose.

Being a christian is not about us, it's about Him. Of course by making Him our Lord and Savior we become God's heirs!

Romans 8:16-17 - The Spirit Himself testifies together with our spirit that we are God's children, and if children, also heirs

God is perfectly capable of having desire.

Then He's not perfect...to desire means to be without...to be without means to be incomplete....to be incomplete is to be imperfect.

Abigailwc answered it perfectly, it's not about us, it's about Him. We need to realize that we are quite insignificant and we place too much of an emphasis upon ourselves. It's Christian humanism.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
