Anyone read John McArthur's Twelve Ordinary Men ? {/i}

I jsut started it and am already hooked! Insightful so far.

Hello 2 All:

Here's an update on my reading.....

* "Am I Not Still GOD?" by Kathy Troccolii = Didn't think I would, but LOVED IT!! It proves that no matter what the circumstances are, GOD is still in control and wants us to put our hope in HIM.

* "A Gentle Thunder" by Max Lucado = Our FATHER has blessed this man with a beautiful gift of insight into the Christian's walk through life . I would be shocked if you didn't enjoy this and any of Max's other writings.

* "No Matter What, No Matter Where" by Larry Libby & Steve Halliday = I must admit that this one snuck up on me! Honestly, I just read it on a whim, and boy am I glad I did so!! It just proves that GOD is with YOU and I EVERY (not some) STEP of the way! In this book HE will show YOU how brief the days of this life really are alongside ETERNITY.

* "The Bible JESUS Read" by Philip Yancey = Almost a year ago someone recommended this to me and I procastinated in reading it (it sat that long in my library). Now, I am so sorry I waited so long!! This one is a MUST READ!

* "Surviving Friendly FIRE" by Ronald Dunn = This is another MUST READ! It reflects upon the hurt and pain Christians have felt NOT from the unsaved, but from their own brothers/sisters in CHRIST. What I enjoyed most is the lining up of what was written by the late Pastor Dunn with Scripture. In it you'll find that FORGIVENESS, while an obligation for GOD's Children, isn't always easy or cheap, but we learn to "return friendly fire" by getting even GOD's way. A VERY straightforward book!

**One more I'm currently in the process of finishing is titled "Everyone is OK Until You Get to Know Them" by John Ortberg = Excellent Spiritual insight....it may (thankfully) crush some of your spiritual toes! Our FATHER knows us way-y-y-y-y-y better than we think HE does!

Anything concerning the End Times (loved the Left Behind books!); anything dealing with Spiritual Warfare, especially if it's by Frank Peretti or Randy Alcorn.

Hello Everyone,

I am new here, but I just wanted to let you all know about a book that I have purchased about 3-months ago. Now I have tried almost every type of diet and exercise program, and believe me, I have tried them. But none even come close to the results that I have been getting with this new book called "Pushing Yourself to Power" by John Peterson. (I have been told that the book itself has only been out for about six months) I have people telling me everyday that I keep looking better and better. The funny thing is, I only workout for 30-45 minutes at the most, do the Pushing Yourself to Power program. The book is filled with hundreds of exercise demonstrating photos, nutritional info, and great stories. But the greatest thing about this book is that John Peterson is a Christian and he is not afraid to let the readers know that, unlike many other authors out there today. I don't want to get too long with this message, but I just wanted to let everyone know about this and pass on this awesome information, so that others may be blessed. I would also like to add Tim LaHaye/Jerry B. Jenkins to my list. Of course, the Left Behind books have gotten a bit "out there" on some things (I like the pre-trib standpoint though), but all in all, not bad.

Uuuummmpph! :) Whew! It's hard work bumping a thread that's two years old!

The boards are as slow as Ron pouring over his Liberace album collection or Gerioke cleaning his bagpipes, so I thought I'd do some digging in the old archives. I thought this thread might contain some good suggestions for those interested in finding a good book to read.

Wow, two years ago people really enjoyed talking about reading! What happened since then? :P

      You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose.       Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life.       You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

      Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

      I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

      For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

      2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices. 

      So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

      Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end. 
      Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house. 

      Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

      Shalom everyone,

      As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

      Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
      Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

      So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
