Shiloh, the Sabbath not a day of worship ? In which Bible did you read that ?

Lev.23 v 3 , six days shall work be done but the 7th day is the Sabbath of rest, a holy convocation or MEETING

Acts 18 v 4 , the Apostle Paul reasoned in the synagogue every Sabbath persuading Jews and Greeks. . .

Lk.4 v 16, Jesus went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day and stood up to read (from scripture. . .

All these scriptures show a meeting together for holy instructions. A day of rest means from physical work, not staying in bed all day. If you were a Sabbath-keeper you would know that and not give out error.

Usually when people say we should worship God every day they mean EXCEPT the Sabbath when they follow their own pleasures.

Beta,

Read what I said at little closer. I said that the Sabbath was not set aside as a day of worship. Being a day of worship is not what makes it the Sabbath. The Sabbath is a day of worship, but it is set aside to be a day of rest. Everyday is a day of worship, but what makes the Sabbath special is that it a day set aside to imitate God who rested from creative labor on the Sabbath.

How should we observe the Sabbath then? Should we cook, can we work? What are the "rules"? Christ is the Lord of the Sabbath indeed He Himself worked on the Sabbath by harvesting grain, and was called on this by the religious leaders of His time, and they were right. But then again they didn't know who He was.

I don't think there is anything wrong with observing a Sabbath or getting circumcised or not eating pork, and on and on. I don

quote:

It's a matter of obedience, which God does require. No, obedience, or works, is not what gets us to heaven, but DISobedience can keep us out.

===============================================================================

What a ridiculous comment and sad commentary. How quickly you have forgotten the gospel and what justifies you. You think disobedience disqualifies you from the prize? Then you are already condemned. If you do not understand your complete failure to be obedient then you have nothing. You have been obedient not a single time.

This entire discussion is sickening and a complete mockery of the Christian faith.

Some say the Sabbath was for the Jews. If it was only for the Jews, then all of the gospels were only for the Jews, everything before the resurrection, the sermon on the mount and all of Jesus' teachings. Those teachings are for US, too. He was our example. And the day DOES matter to God. He put the blessing in the 7th day ONLY, for a reason. As a memorial of creation.

I am still waiting for you to either tell me you are keeping the Sabbath perfectly or that you are deserving of the OT death penalty for failing to do so. Its one or the other. Please take a break from your talking points and answer that question.

Also, you might wish to consider that Jesus is not your example. He is your Savior.

sw

That's what His mercy and sacrifice was for, for when we sin. And He IS our example as well as our savior. So is everything before the resurrection for the Jews? And are the other 9 commandments obsolete, too, like stealing and murdering? They were for all people, for all time.

Please show me where the 10 commandments in the form given to OT Israel are given to OT Gentiles or Christians. Apart from that of course murder and stealing are sins. Those would clearly be in violation of the law in its purest form and summation as clarified in the NT, love for God and neighbor.

Unfortunately you have a legalistic and shallow view of the law. You think by merely obeying the "do nots" of the law you are complying with it. The law, as given to all men, is much deeper. It includes the positives of doing good to neighbor not merely not doing harm. Its primary purpose is to show us our sin and drive us to Christ. It is no remedy for sin and we cannot please God by being obedient to it. Its demands are endless. As Paul wrote, the letter kills but the spirit gives life.

You still have not addressed my question about the penalty given in the OT for not keeping the Sabbath. You are picking and choosing which parts of the Law are still applicable and which are not. After three requests I assume you have no answer.

sw

Yes, I have. That's what His mercy and sacrifice were for. Why do you think they did all the animal sacrifices for that pointed forward to the real Lamb? God waqs as forgiving then as He is now. That's what the whole plan of salvation is about. If people sinned back then they could be forgiven. If they didn't repent, they were stoned. If everyone who broke the Sabbath or any other law had been stoned immediately, everyone would have been killed.

Jesus Himself said that He didn't abolish the law, He ESTABLISHED it.

You still haven't answered why you embrace the other 9 commandments but want to get rid of the Sabbath one. And whether everything before the crucifiction and resurrection are obsolete, too. Because anything that was changed had to legally be changed before His death. Since that is true, why were the women at the tomb still keeping the 7th day Sabbath after His death? Were they not told something? Wouldn't it have been headline news?

So were His teachings obsolete, too?

And can people just pick and choose which day they will keep, or decide to not keep any day? Read TomPjr's post yesterday at 8:00, I think it's AM.

Well, st.Worm, now I'm waiting for YOUR answer.

In the NT Jesus quotes all the commandments except one and that is keeping the sabbath day holy. On the seventh day God rested (which is the sabbath day). As Christians we observe the day that Christ arose from the grave which happens to be on a sunday.

cmc , if you knew your scriptures you would know Jesus did NOT rise on a sunday. Christians ASSUME he did but scripture says otherwise. You are of course free to believe what you like.

kat8 . . You have the right idea, obedience is to love God as many scriptures say. I have listed a number of them in just a few previous posts. 2Tim.2 v 5 , and if a man also strive for mastery yet is he not crowned except he strive LAWFULLY. That does not mean to keep all the old rituals which had been added by Moses to which some christians snidingly refer but a simple spiritual observance honouring God.

st. W, please feel free to leave the debate , wouldn't want to make you ill.

It is strange how people want to tear the Sabbath-commandment from the rest even though scripture is clear on observing all. Again I say this does NOT any longer include what has been abolished and fulfilled by Christ - but the spiritual law / commandment is holy , just , and good , Rom.7 v 12.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
