I was told that the Mormons own the Marriott chain and that is why the book of Mormon is in their rooms along with the KJ Bible.

Ahhhh....the Gideons....let me share something:

Our children's swim coach was going through a break-up with her boyfriend while attending the University .....She told us that she was literally 'crying out to the LORD'...(while at a crosswalk...waiting for the light to change to "WALK")....."God, If You Are Real....Give Me A Sign!!!".....The light changed...she started across and a man in a suit handed her a little KJ version of the Bible and said it was a gift from the Gideons......That is how she found the LORD.

Thank God for that ministry!!

I remember my first experience with the Gideons, when I was in grade six. We'd just moved to a new house, and somewhere in the move the Bible I'd gotten when I was in Pioneer Girls got misplaced (we actually just found it this year, in a box we never opened with some National Geographics). I was wondering how I'd ever get a Bible again (I know...I was a melodramatic youngster)...even though I'm sure my parents would have been happy to buy me one, had I asked, I was afraid to ask for one because I thought they'd be mad at me for losing something so precious. A couple of weeks later, the Gideons came to our school to hand out little New Testaments (with Psalms and Proverbs). I was so happy. I still used it, years later, and I don't think there was a page that didn't have underlining or circling or some other bookmarking. Unfortunately, THAT one got lost in the next move...I kinda think it got left in the little fort/hiding place my brother and I had made under a stairwell, since I don't think I would have put it in a box. I just pray someone else found it and found comfort in it.

I never quite understood the reason for leaving Bibles in hotels. Why do the Gideons , or any group, do that? I am not saying it's wrong at all.

Just wondering the reasons for it. And who might have come up with the idea.

Is it for outreach(evangelising)?

Do people in desperate times actually check into motels(the seedy type at the off-ramp and not the luxery ones) and actually look in the drawers? Like they do in movies. Sometimes while drunk, and or suicidal, during a thunderstorm.

I was at a Marriott this past weekend and there was a Gideon Bible, a Book of Mormon, and a biography of the Hotel chain in the night table drawer.

I was converted by reading the little green NT Gideon

[i am not a Gideon but a friend of the Gideons,I fill out the the form to join but because I wasn't college educated or a higher rank in the service than I achieved I was not permitted to join.

I appreciate what the Gideons do. I love knowing I can always find a Bible when I am away from home and I think it is a wonderful outreach. But I am very curious to know why not being a college gradute would keep you from not being allowed to join the Gideons. If you felt a calling to join shouldn't they let you? Just wondering

Why would you have to be college educated to serve the Lord in that function?

Well, Isaiah 55:11 is the verse that comes to mind. At least, the words did - I confess I had to go check an index, but in my defence I DID remember it was somewhere in Isaiah!

It has God saying that His Word will not return to Him void and I guess only He knows how many people Have found help by turning to a Gideon Bible in a hotel or hospital room, or by dipping into the New Testament they received at school (at least we do in UK). I remember when my mum moved into an Old People's Home I found a Gideon Bible in her bedside drawer. I sat down with her and showed her all the subjects listed at the front with the Bible verses to look at when you felt lonely, depressed, had a decision to make, etc, and she seemed please to have it.

Bye for now

My friend you and I are in the same situation. Because I have the same problem.

I didn't have a college degree either. And as far as the rank goes in the service they accept e-7 and above, For those of us who only served one tour of four years, it is pretty unrealiistic. As for me I just assume they don't know much abouot the military. I am very fortunate in the members of the Gideon still permitt me to meet with them on Saturday and read the Scripture and pray with them. so like you I am a friend of the Gideon, I may not be able to wear the pin or go to their monthy banquets where they welcome new members but for now I rest in the fact they can count on me for my prayers and support whenever they need me. Some day God Willing the Gideon will realize that they are turning away many of my brothers in Christ and Change some of the rules that can keep people like you and me out. Love in Christ littlejoe

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • George Whitten, the visionary behind Worthy Ministries and Worthy News, explores the timing of the Simchat Torah War in Israel. Is this a water-breaking moment? Does the timing of the conflict on October 7 with Hamas signify something more significant on the horizon?

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
