I wasn't going to say anything because it is a sensitive subject for many.

I agree with all of those who believe that the government should butt out <no pun intended> and I also tend to agree with those who believe that the hype of health risks and cancer risk are over inflated... Many get lung cancer without smoking or living w/smokers. Much of it is a genetic predisposition. On the other hand there are those who are more sensitive to second hand smoke.... Should they dictate how others live?.... No, they should remove themselves from the situation if they feel it necessary.

I feel that I can say that because I'm one of those people. The gastro doc has told me to stay away from a smoking enviroment, he says it effect my bad pancreas... The same with the rhuematologist and endocrinologist... they say it irritates my immune system. They suggested that I don't work in casinos or walk along busy streets with a lot of exhaust fumes either.

I know plenty of people who smoke, I would never begrudge their choice or make a major drama production of the matter. Most smokers I know will excuse themselves and those who don't, well then I excuse myself if need be. Nope I don't like the smoke or the smell, but I respect the people.

butero, i've cited sources in the past and nobody cares. they believe what they want to believe. ironically, the sources i always quoted were the specific studies that can be found if you dig deep enough on the CDC and WHO websites. others, however, would quote summaries from the CDC website that slanted the reporting according to how the brass wanted it slanted... the brass being the CDC's boss... the government.

the statistics themselves from all research done by the CDC indicate that there is no statistical significance in the increased risk. for something to be considered statistically significant it has to be higher than the .5 to 1.5% that is typically used as the basis of the propoganda. why? well you're a smart man so i'm sure you are well aware that when the risk is only one or two percent higher, it's not possible to rule out other enviornmental factors and genetic predispositions.

feel free to dig on the sites til you find the actual studies, with the actual numbers. i did that a few times for people on this board but since that was when i had my other computer, i no longer have the links bookmarked.

i won't waste my time looking them up again anyway, because people ae going to believe what they want to believe,

for the record, just so everyone knows, i grew up breathing second hand smoke. my parents didn't smoke but our babysitter did and many of my parents friends did. i've got one of the strongest immune systems of anyone i know. i got strep throat a few months back and that's the first time i've been even slightly sick in about ten years.

my children grew up breathing SHS, (mine, their father's, their step-father's) and it's almost impossible for either of them to get sick.

some people get sick. some don't. there's not enough evidence, no matter how much hype there is, that SHS is the cause of it.

(but SHS can sure aggravate existing conditions, such as asthma and chronic bronchitus and stuff!)

Personally, I believe secondhand smoke does cause harm, but aside from that, I don't believe smokers have the right to make the air so unpleasant for others to breathe. If they want to kill themselves, that's their choice, but when it gets past them and on to me, that's a different story.

What about those who have allergies and can't be around it?

I also agrree with insurance companies that are concerned with health care costs.

Not to stray too far afield, but I am also opposed to car seats for children, seatbelts and those absolutely dopey bicycle helmets. Let me rephrase: I am against the LAWS, not the items listed. Those laws illustrate one thing: contempt for the population on the part of government.

Isn't a car considered private property? What's the difference between telling someone they can't smoke in their own car, and saying they can't smoke in their house either. I am all for private property rights and am concerned that the government may be over reaching with this law. I am a non-smoker, but even if I weren't I'd never smoke with my children around (if I had kids). That's just common sense, is our country in such bad shape that we have to legislate common sense?

It's no different than telling you that you can't drink a beer in a vehicle while driving...or anyone else can drink or even have an open container of alcohol in a vehicle...all of which can get you into serious trouble with the law.

Personally, I'd like to see smoking banned across the board. My mom was a chain smoker too and so are a lot of my family members. I can't stand walking out of a smoke free building only to have the "smoke free" counteracted by a super concentration of second hand smoke blasting me in the face as I step out the front door.

You'd think people wouldn't want to wreak of the nasty odor that cigarette smoking leaves embedded in their clothes, their hair, their vehicle...even their furniture. You can smell a smoker a mile away down wind from them. They can move out of an apartment and 2 years later it still wreaks of cigarette smoke. My step son got clothes from his dad for Christmas and the whole house wreaked of cigarette smoke the moment we cracked open the box. The first thing we had to do was wash the odor out of them. YUCK!!!

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
