Abolutely Dumbfounded

Knowing that so many of you are wise and clear thinkers I'm going to ask for advice (something I almost never do!) I'll try to be brief.

I work in an office with one other person. We have a coffee pot and refrigerator which is only used by the two of us and a friend in another area who doesn't have those things.

I bought a pint of half and half and put it in the refrigerator. No one else uses the half and half; my coworker drinks her coffee black. I used about half of the container before the problem occurred. A few days ago, I made the coffee and poured some of the half and half into my cup. It tasted AWFUL! When I smelled the container I detected something like floor wax or brass cleaner or something of that nature. I touched my finger to the half and half and tasted it...........it tasted like one of those chemicals. What I'm saying is that someone laced my coffee cream with some type of substance that shouldn't be ingested. There is no chance that it was contaminated when I bought it because it was half gone before it was contaminated. There is no doubt about that fact because it is so vile I couldn't drink more than one sip (thankfully!)

My problem is that I strongly suspect my office mate yet have no idea why she would do such a thing! There is no problem between the two of us or between myself and anyone else who works at my company. I can't talk to my family about this; they would want to call the police. I can't talk to anyone at work about it because I could be totally wrong and would ruin my office mate's career. I can't ignore it because I could very well be working with a psychopath!

Thoughts? Anyone?

Why do you suspect your office mate and not the other person?

I would suggest you be very careful, and use see-through, glass containers for your liquids, and see-through containers for your foodstuffs.

Yes, I have thought of the cleaning staff too. They would have no way of knowing that only I use the stuff though. I suspect that this is aimed at me and me alone. I think you're right about telling my boss but....I'm sure not looking forward to that conversation since my boss is a reactionary and will start a modern day Inquisition.

I have placed a new container in the refrigerator but will not use it. I want to see if it happens again.

Thanks for that Floatingaxe. The thought that someone either hates me that much or is totally insane and working in my office is disturbing, to say the least. I know that He protected me and will keep me on my guard.

If your boss makes and inquisition out of it, so be it. The Lord uses people of different personalities than us to accomplish His will.

I agree! At least tell your boss!

Tell your boss verbally and in writing with times and dates.

Address the letter to your boss and keep a copy of it for any future references if needed;

hopefully and prayerfully it won't be needed.

The greatest thing you desire and all of us desire as well is getting to the bottom of this. How did it get there; who did it; what did they put in the half and half; why? What How Who Why... These are the questions we want answered. I'll pray that the Lord can get to this speedily.

Since this lacing could have endangered your life, I cannot doubt the fear and anxiety you are having from this situation. Your mind must be running a lot because of this. What I would do now is stop all the thinking & worrying and simply rely on God.

Philippians 4:6

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

Just rely on the Lord and read from the book of Psalms. In Psalms, David was pursued by enemies who wished to cause harm to him. Yet God sustained and protected him. From these trials and stressful events, David wrote much found in the book of Psalms.

For instance just 5 minutes ago I believe I downloaded a file with a potential virus. I guess there are some similarities with your situation (people with mal intent 'lacing' files with malware). All of my music and video files got deleted. But I soon realized that this was from the Lord. Not saying that someone lacing your half and half with some chemical is from the Lord...but we can trust that "all things work for the good". For me, I know I spent very unwise time with these files that got deleted.

Just from my experience I know fully that the Lord is watching over us. I believe if you can completely give this matter over to the Lord, you will have peace and you will not need to do any struggling. The Lord's hand is covering us and He deals with those who want to harm His children. Count on the Lord. Have no fear! This is faith.
