I have a christian friend who watches buffy the vampier slayer and ses nothing wrong with it

alot of chrisitans go to see fantasy movies or read fantasy books

I have been angry at most of what is on the TV and at the movies theaters for a long time and I don't see how christians can say it is ok because they know it is only pretend or not real or what ever

We as christians need to take a stand and say no I won't watch that show because of content or read that book because it deals with unscriptual things

look how many parents let their kids read harry potter because James Dobson said it was ok !!

Even in here I have read where some alot as a matter of fact have been to movies that no christian should go see yet they see nothing wrong with it at all because as they say they know it is not real or deep down it has a christian theme to it

Am I so out of tune with things that I stand on a soap box that is crumbleing ??

In Christ

I would say definitely YES. We must remember, if we are children of God, He lives inside of us, and what we watch, He watch as well. We can't tell Him to go away for a moment so we can do things that's not to the glory of God

Reminds me of a couple of songs I knew when I was a kid. The first was on WCRF 103.3. The second is by a group called Farrell and Farrell from the 70's.

Input, output

That is what it's all about

Input, output

What goes in is what comes out

Input, output

Your mind is a computer who's

Input, output

Daily you must choose

PEOPLE IN A BOX

Music and Lyrics

Bob Farrell, Eddie De Garmo

WELL , I ROLLED OUT OF MY BED - I WAS FEELING SEMI-DEAD

SO I WANDERED FROM THE BEDROOM TO THE COFFEE

THEN I WOKE UP TO THE SOUND OF LITTLE PEOPLE ALL AROUND

RELENTLESS NOISES FROM THAT T.V. THERE BESIDE ME

AND THEY TOLD WHAT TO WEAR - HOW TO SMELL AND DO MY HAIR

AND HOW TO CHARGE THE NEW CAR I'LL BE BUYING

I JUST SAT AND SOAKED IT IN - AREN'T THESE PEOPLE ALL MY FRIENDS

IT NEVER DAWNED ON US THAT THEY COULD ALL BE LYING

PEOPLE IN A BOX - T.V. PERSONALITIES

THEY SHOW ME HOW TO LIVE

IN SPECIFIC GENERALITIES

PEOPLE IN A BOX - OUT OF BED AND TUNE 'EM IN

HOW MUCH DO I LEARN

FROM PEOPLE IN A BOX

WELL, I COMPLETELY BOUGHT IT ALL - REVOLVING CREDIT WALL-TO-WALL

WITHOUT A PAYMENT TIL SEPT. 89

CAN I RUN - CAN I ESCAPE - ARE THEY ALIVE OR JUST ON TAPE

THEY SEEM SO WORLDLY AND SO WELCOME TO THE EYE

HEAVY PRESSURE FROM THE START - T.V. MADNESS STOLE OUR HEART

BLACK AND WHITE AND VIVID COLOR TURNED TO GREY

DAYTIME SOAPS THEY'RE NOT CLEAN - NIGHTIME COPS BLAST THRU OUR

SCREEN

WE'RE A NEILSEN RATING LIVING ON DISPLAY

ARE THESE SULTANS OF VIDEO ACTIVITY

TRULY THE MASTERS OF MY DESTINY

WAS I CREATED IN THE IMAGE OF TRINITRON

CAN JESUS EVER ENDORSE MEDIOCRITY

WHILE WE CONSUME HOURS OF PROGRAMMED PHILOSOPHY

WILL WE EVER LEARN OFF IS AS EASY TO TURN AS ON

I would say He likely has more important things on His mind. Not that what you watch on TV isn't important, but I think as believers, we have tremendous freedom to "eat all kinds of meat," so to speak. Years ago it was frowned upon by some in the church to read comic books, or go into a movie theater, even to see a Disney movie, or listen to secular music on AM radio! I think certain cultural things fall within the area of personal discretion. I find it hilarious that Christian families will sit and watch "Escape From Witch Mountain," or "Sleeping Beauty," yet claim Rowling is doomed to the fiery pits of Hell because her Harry Potter books have literary witchcraft in them. The most popular TV show in my church is 24, believe it or not, because of its conservative values! Of course there is a segment of the church that would say that show is far to violent for Christians to watch, so they'll watch less violent shows instead, like Desperate Housewives or The View... Or better yet, our cultured church members who wouldn't be caught dead in front of the boob tube don't think twice about sitting and watching Swan Lake at the opera, or other events for the cultured, like Equus or Cats. They'll tolerate the nudity, near nudity and bad language because, you know, it's high culture, unlike TV which is, you know, so provincial.

In the realm of popular culture, we should be guided, not so much by "What Would Jesus Watch," because that opinion changes from decade to decade, but rather by the question, "How does this show affect my relationship with Christ?" If you have a problem with 24 or The Office, then don't watch those shows. But for those of us who don't take television seriously (because we know it's all make believe and that vampires aren't real), don't be too judgmental. As my pastor says, when you point an accusing finger at a brother, there are three other fingers and a big thumb pointing back at you.

I would say in heaven the topic of discussion around the heavenly water cooler isn't what we watched on TV last night, but with whom did we share the Gospel?

Philippians 4:8 And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.

If God wasn't interested in what we put in our minds he would not have said things like this.

Well, seeing as they didn't have TV back then, I don't think this is an admonition against TV. But you are proving my point. Given the context of Phil. 4, it is evident how G-d wants us to live. Assuming we follow the previous verses, then this whole discussion becomes mute:

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable

I don't disagree with Marnie, or Gia and Leonard for that matter, I said for "me" because each of us have certain things that cripple our walk, what is a stumbling block for me would not bother somebody else. If God touches you and says, this is something YOU should not do, then stay away from it. My stumbling block was certain books and movies that I liked watching, yet these same stories filled me with fear, yes I love horror stories, after I stopped myself from watching/reading them, I found God came closer and eased my mind and worries. I don't read threads on here about demons and such for the exact same reason. These type of things hurt my walk.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
