I've heard Saturday as the true day that Jesus rose from the grave.

Well, it was more like Saturday evening, by our reckoning. Saturday evening after the Sabbath, begins the first day of the week on a lunar calendar.

I'm glad I wasn't totally wrong. :whistling:

Wait!!! lol I"m totally confused! Even if Jesus DID rise on Saturday, that would be what... two days and one night at the most????? lol How can that even be possible, and much less, fit with "Good Friday" lol!!

Precisely. Friday is a tradition based upon a lack of understanding of the Hebrew calendar. I would wager 10-1 that the majority of Christians today have no idea what a "High Sabbath" is relative to the Hebrew calendar. They take for granted that the Sabbath mentioned in connection with Jesus burial is the "Saturday" Sabbath.

The Bible does not operate from our modern calendar. You cannot use our reckoning of the calendar to interpret Scripture.

The Bible has two calendars a secular calendar with a New Year that starts every Autumn, and a Sacred Calendar that begins on the first day Nisan/Aviv (Passover month). From Gen. 1:1 until the end of Exodus chapter 11, the Bible operates from the secular calendar. From Exodus 12:1 to the end of Revelation, God is using the Sacred calendar. Both are lunar, both operate concurrently.

Well we are 100% certain that He died on a Friday. (They rushed to take Him down due to the Sabbath (beginning Friday evening/night/whatever))

And ya, I don't recall Jesus saying "I will tear down the temple and rebuild it in 3 days. Thats 3 full days by the way. Like 72 hours. Make sure you count them all up. 71 and a half hours won't cut it for me"

As it happens, a time of 24 hours and 2 minutes can span 3 days. Although in Jesus's case it was probably at least 48 hours total.

There were 2 sabbaths to reckon with. The Passover Sabbath and the 7th day Sabbath.

Le 23:5 In the fourteenth [day] of the first month at even [is] the LORD

Hey,

I do'nt want to hijack another person's thread.. so I am asking this question.. how is good Friday biblical? (hah, hah, this must come up every year).... We all agree that Jesus was in the grave for three days and three nights, and that he rose on Sunday.... how is it that we can say he died on Friday?

Going for dying on Fridaynight... even if he was put in the grave Friday night...

One Night: Friday

One day: Saturday

2nd night: Saturday

2nd day Sunday...

According to this? Jesus rose on Monday...

Even if Jesus was buried that morning, it still wouldn't have added up.... Why do we celebrate good Friday?

Come to think of it, Passover starts on Thursday, right? and they had to take Jesus' body down for Passover? Isn't that why Joseph of Arimethea said he woudl take the Lord's body? So.... Thursday night..

First night: Thursday

First day: Friday

Second night: Friday

Second Day: Saturady

THird Night: Saturday

THird day: Sunday

so.... woudln't this mean that he woudl have to have been buried either Wednesday night or Thursday?? Not good friday?

I'm sorry if this sounds tedious, but it took someone laying it out for me to see that it could'nt possibly have been on Friday that Jesus died...

I know that this is what the bible says...

Mat 12:40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

Dear. Kittylover, First answer is, Good friday does not come from the bible. It is a tradition made up by men.

Jesus death and resserection is based on the Jewis week and as such, Saturday is the last day of the week, so Jesus was crucified on Thursday.

The reason we have good friday is for the convience of man, so we can get man to work four days and not brake up the week. Also it means satan has been able to change gods order, and thus take the focus and glory away from god and on to man.

I am sorry Keilan but Jesus most likely did not die on Friday. It simply doesn't add up, and the evidence does not support that.

This is like arguing about whether or not Jesus died on December 25th. It takes away from the beautiful miracle that he performed for our salvation.

Jesus died, there is no doubt of that. Jesus also rose again, there is no doubt about that. Those two facts are really all that matter.

What's that verse in the Bible about arguing over words? I wish I could find it right now, but it's very early. :b:

In the crucifixion story there are 2 Sabbaths mentioned. A high sabbath (Passover I assume), which Christ was buried before..then one more day and then the regular weekly Sabbath. Which would bring us to the conclusion that He died on a Wednesday. All that is specified in the Bible is that He rose on the first day of the week. Not the specific day He died. That is like assuming that He was born exactly on December 25 (which most know is not true because of the hints to the season given in the Bible). I think the general public accepted it on Friday to gain and extra day off school/work. Long weekend you know LOL. Sorry I tend to ramble in the morning.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
