Some of the most common places you will find a deck of cards (besides our homes) will be with prostitutes, gamblers, thieves, murderers, in taverns, brothels, prisons, insane asylums, gambling dens, etc., but never at a prayer meeting.

common places in which you'll find plates to eat from, glasses to drink from, furniture to sit on, are the homes of prostitutes, gamblers, thieves, murderers, taverns, brothels, prisons, asylums, gambling dens. what does that prove?

oh wait.. but never at a prayer meeting? ok, then underwear... you'll find underwear in all those places, but not in a prayer meeting (except what is being worn by the attendees!)

for the record, i went on a youth minister's retreat years ago with all the youth group leaders of our church. you won't believe what we did for entertainment every night. we played "21"... commonly known as blackjack.

i'm with ronald. this kind of logic is way off the deep end.

A Soldier's Bible -- Deck of Cards

A SOLDIERS' BIBLE After heavy fighting, a soldier returned to camp. The next day being Sunday, the Chaplain had set up church service. The men were asked to take out their Bibles or Prayer Books.

The Chaplain noticed one soldier looking at a deck of cards. After service, he was taken by the Chaplain to see the Major. The Chaplain explained to the Major what he had seen.

The Major told the young soldier he would be punished if he could not explain himself.

The young soldier told the Major that during the battle, he had neither a Bible or a Prayer Book so he would use his deck of cards and explained: "You see, Sir, when I look at the ACE, it tells me that there is one GOD and no other.

When I see the "2," it reminds me that there are two parts the Bible, the OLD TESTAMENT and the NEW TESTAMENT.

The "3" tells me of the TRINITY OF GOD THE FATHER, GOD THE SON and GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT.

The "4" reminds me of the FOUR GOSPELS, MATTHEW, MARK, LUKE and JOHN.

When I see the "5," it tells me of the FIVE UNWISE VIRGINS who were lost and that five were saved.

The "6" makes me mindful that GOD CREATED THE EARTH IN JUST SIX DAYS, and GOD said that it was good.

When I see the "7," it reminds me that GOD RESTED ON THE SEVENTH DAY.

As I look at the "8," it reminds me that GOD DESTROYED ALL HUMAN LIFE BY WATER EXCEPT FOR EIGHT PEOPLE, Noah, his wife, their three sons, and their three son's wives.

When I see the "9," I think of the NINE LEPERS that GOD healed. There were ten lepers in all, but only one stopped to thank him.

The "10" reminds me of the TEN COMMANDMENTS carved in stone by the hand of GOD.

The "JACK" makes me remember the Prince of Darkness. Like a roaring lion, he devours those that he can.

When I look at the "QUEEN," I see THE CHURCH, THE BRIDE OF JESUS.

As I look at the last card, "THE KING," it reminds me that JESUS IS LORD OF LORDS and KING OF KINGS."

There are 365 spots on a deck of cards, and that is the number of days in each year.

There are 52 cards to a deck and that is the number of weeks in a year.

There are 12 picture cards and that is the number of months in a year.

There are 4 different suits in a deck and that is the number of seasons in a year..."

And so, the young soldier then said to the Major, "You see, Sir, my intentions were honorable. My deck of cards serves as my BIBLE, my PRAYER BOOK and my ALMANAC.

Most importantly, my deck of cards reminds me that I need JESUS... 365 days, 52 weeks and 12 months a year and that I should always PRAY 4 others."

May you never look at a deck of cards the same way again!

Greetings dove2,

When I saw Angels post, the very first thought that came to me was the Soldiers Bible. Several years ago Paul Harvey repeated it on his program (at least I think it was him). I was going to go search for it on line when I finally got to the last post of the page and you had beaten me to the draw. I had originally heard that when I was a kid. I loved it and still do.

I love playing cards, I grew up with them. I am not addicted to them, but they provide an inexpensive past time activity. But a friend of mine had a real addiction to them, and as they consumed more and more of his time, the Lord spoke to him and told him "No more cards". He understood and as far as I know has never played with cards since. As with alcohol, we should do all things in moderation, not letting them become a "god" in our lives. And if the Lord says "No more." then by all means we should lay aside anything that binds.

Blessings,

Dad Ernie

I heard the song of the deck of cards before and you know what I think, this was a decieving trick of the devil to make people believe that cards are not that bad

(I hope you don't get mad at me, but I can't see it any other way)

"Deck of Cards" has been performed quite a few times. Here is the list of artists I remember doing the song:

T. Texas Tyler

Wink Martindale (of Tic-Tac-Dough fame)

Red Sovine-Vietnam Deck of Cards (everything the same except location is Vietnam instead)

Hank Williams, Sr. (available only on bootleg tapes from collector's-never "officially" released)

Bill Anderson

If anyone remembers anyone other versions, let me know.

Hypothetical: A young lad of 12 years old buys a deck of playing cards at the local pharmacy and brings them home. The parents of this child, convinced that playing cards are Satanic scream at him, "Get those things out of this house right this instant!"

No offense intended, but I think it's going a little too far believing that an inanimate object such as a deck of playing cards has some inert evil force that will influence the way people live and act. It smacks of superstition. Like so many other things, it's how these object are used that matters. A crystal ball is just a rounded, polished chunk of glass. But when it is used in a seance [sic] or some other ritual, that's when there is a problem.

I believe that gambling is a problem and a trap for many people. But a friendly game of cribbage is not a participation in a Satanic ritual. In fact, if more families played games (Board games, card games, etc.) instead of plopping their behinds in front of the boob-tube every night, there would be a lot more quality building going on in the homes.

Most people do not know, or in fact care, what the origins or the meanings of playing cards are anyway. And if you really have a problem with traditional playing cards, there's always Uno.

Angels

Greetings Angels,

Do you have a past time hobby or activity that you like to pursue? Does it glorify God? Or is it something whereby you can just kick back and relax a bit? Is playing cards forbidden in the Bible? If so, please give me the verse(s). Jesus once said about the Pharisees that they strained at a gnat and swallowed a camel. Are you sure you are not doing the same thing here?

Blessings,

Dad Ernie

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
