The US and Iran just had their first official talks between them in 30 years, and from what I can see, it looks like they began some progress on the situation.

I think some more pieces of the puzzle will fall into place throughout the year, too.

Right, along with reports of locals turning in insurgents and their locations.

It seems like the Iraqi public is getting sick of the insurgents and is beginning to give away their locations.

Yup.

In fact, I read a piece in Time.com (yes, Time!) that showed a bit of progress. The story (written by a strict opponent of the war- one of them 'objective' journalists), related how the locals were getting sick of the various groups who perpetuate the violence. They are beginning to turn them in by the droves, where they used to hide and support them. To me, that's a huge shift in the nature of the war.

Basically, they hate the terrorists more than they hate us right now, which is a good thing. It makes for a foothold for us. Now, if we can simply prevent any idiocy on our part, like Abu Graib, we should be able to build on this foundation.

In the mean time, schools, mosques, power grids, hospitals, and many other structures are continuing to be built and improved.

I agree it's called winning hearts and minds......if indeed the local population are turning against the terrorists then they have lost (the terrorists that is)

I honestly don't know what to think on this topic. I see serious bias on all the news I see (pro and con) and have no way of getting an unbiased account. I can't even do my normal routine of comparing the news and getting down to the least common denominator which I can be reasonably sure is true since the news sources all contradict each other.

Hi to All,

My Son is considering joining the Army Nat Guard.

The recruiter's came to the house the other day, A Fine Young Man from our church and his Sargent.

They both said if we the American people could only know the REAL TRUTH instead of the LIES we are blasted with everyday from bias news outlets.

We would be encouraged about how well we are doing and all the good we are doing there.

It is a very hard situation and our church is constantly prayed for those Heroic Men and Women Serving Our Great Country and the Families that have suffered such Terrible Losses.

May God Be With All Of Them That Are In Harms Way And Bring Them All Safely Home.
