why pray to saints?

I think the main point of reference is Scripture, if you see an on going theme running through Scripture that supports petitioning various so-called saints to intercede on your behalf, because they are more likely to get the Fathers attention, then it sets a biblical precedent and you should do the same....if however you cannot discover such teaching you should naturally disregard it.

Phi 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report; if there is any virtue, and if there is any praise, think about these things.

[so, my belief is that we should NOT pray to saints, but there is nothing wrong with asking a saint to pray for us.
