At the risk of being upbraided by a mod, I have in all honesty to confess that I didn't find BrotherJohn's words offensive once he had fully explained himself. His use of the word "whore" was directly from the AV - the original and inspired translation of the Bible into the English language. For instance:

Exodus 34:15,16

Lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and they go a whoring after their gods, and do sacrifice unto their gods, and one call thee, and thou eat of his sacrifice; And thou take of their daughters unto thy sons, and their daughters go a whoring after their gods, and make thy sons go a whoring after their gods.

Judges 2:17

And yet they would not hearken unto their judges, but they went a whoring after other gods, and bowed themselves unto them: they turned quickly out of the way which their fathers walked in, obeying the commandments of the LORD; but they did not so.

Ezekiel 16:28

Thou hast played the whore also with the Assyrians, because thou wast unsatiable; yea, thou hast played the harlot with them, and yet couldest not be satisfied.

And if you do a search, there are many, many more Biblical references to whores and whoring.

I do not wish to be contentious, but I strongly believe that PCness should not overtake Biblical truth.

Whores, whoring and whoredom are used in the Bible as a metaphor for unfaithfulness to God and it seems to me that if we censor the word (and the Word) then we could lose all concept of the gravity of the offence against God. Please correct me if I am in error.

Also, if I have misunderstood the objection to BrotherJohn's posts, then once again I ask for correction.

In Jesus,

Ruth

I like Joyce Meyers too; that woman can breathe fire when she gets wound up! :P

Maybe she needs a tumms. Indegestion is very hard on the stomach.

hehe THAT'S the way to do it.

But really don't we both wish we could breathe the fire of the Word now and then...... brandish the steel double edged sword of the Spirit with the convicting heat of the Word?

Saints,

Gotta go but if Brother John happens to come back, show him some grace and patience.

Don't argue with him...just send a Report and one of the moderators will check it out.

Our intention is NOT to censor but rather it is to promote Christ. It isn't always a word and idea that offends but rather the presentation. It's that simple. Context is so important is discussions.

John appears very sincere and firm in his Faith. In the 4 years I have served here, I have seen many come ready for a fight and end up softening when they come to trust the brethren.

Y'all have fun with your discussion. I'm going outside now. :P

May the Lord Bless all of you richly!

wayne, your servant

Shalom Wayne,

You ARE a faithful servant. Thank you!!

Your heart and intentions are in the right place brother. Catch ya laters.

joyce meyers is very good.she reaches a lot of people because she is "down to earth".your loss if you don't like her!

I like Joyce Meyers too; that woman can breathe fire when she gets wound up!

As can Beth Moore. I saw a meeting of hers where a huge number of young people (male and female in their twenties +)

came to the front to pray the prayer of salvation.

And Joy Dawson is also incredible. She is mostly retired now and her son John Dawson is taking up her mantle. But this woman could bring down the presence of God on a meeting such as I haven't experienced from any modern preacher. Truly the anointing was heavily upon her ministry. She brought many to the feet of Christ for salvation, healing, comforting. This is God's work as it should be. And I thank God that there is ANYone who is able to answer the call, be they male, female, black, white, short, stout, crippled, blind, deaf (not mute!) gentile, Jew, poor, or rich.

Shalom Ooops,.

We are not talking about Bible TEACHERS, but women PASTORS, as in Spiritual Authority. And I don't know that Beth Moore is ordained.

His use of the word "w****" was directly from the AV - the original and inspired translation of the Bible into the English language. For instance:

Shalom Ruth,

Aww come one! You know better!:rolleyes: It was asked REPEATEDLY the Mods to not use that word as it is culturally offensive.

You mean you refuse to temper your use of that word and use one less culturally offensive on this board even though asked repeatedly?

Maybe YOU weren't offended, but the point is, there are young people on this board who WOULD be offended (like my children) and it is consideration for others than is at stake here.

We are NOT to give offense in the delivery of the message.

If you REALLY don't want to be contentious about it and get your answer, you should PM Wayne (since he is a Mod and made the requests), not re-post the word (several times BTW) that has been identified as offensive as asked by him NOT to be used.

I get a little worried when people say scripture is nonsense and ridiculous. What can I say, scripture says what it says, and not just one passage, look at the sweep of scripture and tell me what it says about ordaining women , what it says about women in the Church having authority over men? Of course Paul did not set those guidelines, the Word of God clearly shows who should be ordained a minister, and it is an institution that has been set aside for males. I don't know what else to say you simply cannot get around the plain and simple words which point this out.

Look at the major denominations that have ordained women in the past 50 years and tell me what they are doing today? You cannot ignore scripture and have it simply affect one issue, once we start relying on our own ideas we are going to do that on many other areas also.

I would be worried also if someone said that, but no one did.

Scripture says what it says, and it is up to us to approach Scripture properly rightly dividing the Words of Truth. Anyone can helicopter pieces out of context and remake them to say something other than what was intended by the author. And once people get started doing that they start relying on those helicoptors on everything.....on that I can totally agree.

Denominations that ordain women are saving souls just like denominations that don't ordain. The majority rule does not authenticate truth.

At any rate, I don't see anyone actually trying to discuss the Scriptures this morning besides firehill...... whose humor may be too much for some.

My, you are a selective reader. I posted two verses that the church has historically used to exclude women from the pastorate and received no response from those who wish to have women preach. No surprise. Also as far as denominations that ordain women saving souls you may also see churches run by homosexuals saving souls on occasion too but does that mean we are to endorse them? I think not. The arguments being brought forth here in support of women pastors are simply amazing and totally false.

Sorry, Vicki, I still don't get it. I have always read the KJV where the words whore and whoring are used many times. Please tell me why the KJV is now considered so offensive that I may no longer quote from it?

If I am ever banned from quoting from the KJV that will be the day that I shake the dust from my feet and leave.

In Jesus,

Ruth

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
