you may be right. :emot-handshake:

i know this lady that came and asked me a bunch of questions about things.

I told her what I believe and I told her what many believe.

I'm not going to give her the "this is right" attitude.

but its not even the "new" Christians. i sometyimes think that when youve been exposed

to one point of view for years and years that youre eventually going to think that "my way is

the right way."

it was just an observation. didnt mean to generalize.

This is definatly true, people get one viewpoint pounded into them for so long that they are unable to doubt it. For example, I read a book by Phillip Yancey where he talked about defeating racism. From his birth he had been taught that whites were superior, and it was very hard for him to accept that blacks were human as well.

and this happens.

i was raised with a certain point of view about Christ. it took humility and for me to tell myself to shut up because i've never cracked a bible and read a book within it yet i felt i thought i knew what was right. this is what started my walk as a Christian.

it took for me to step the the side and break out of that "mold" to realize that there is informaiton out there that i can receive if i'd only listen.

I, as one of the older generation here, depend on the younger people here to help me understand how younger people think and talk. I was brought up in a very different environment then those 30 years younger, and tend to look at things differently. But, for someone to think that we, the older generation, believe that our Holy Spirit is different then your Holy Spirit, is wrong. I have not come across anyone like that, yet.

How we think determines how we answer. This is a good case for us all to spend more time with other age groups, to become better acquainted with each others ways. Thanks for bringing this up.

Hey everyone -

Well, since I reached 50 this year, does that mean I know everything then? hehe- just kidding.

Actually, as I see my position, God has taught me what I've learned. Yet, I have a long ways to go to learn much more. Thus, I'm also searching for the well to draw more learning from It, and on the way, if God provides, I may share what I have learned with any others that might be lacking where God has Blessed me.

The interesting part is, I've learned from God, thru people of all ages. I've kept myself open to learning from God as He sees fit, not as I think to watch for it. After all, God declares we are to be careful of our dealings with people, as we could be entertaining an Angel unawares.

Also, even if older people have experienced things differently than another when growing up, doesn't mean there is nothing can be learned by younger generations from them. After all, learning isn't only about how to deal with a specific situatin, but learning how to figure out how to deal with them as a general rule, that gets us thru trials as well.

And just as there are some older people who think they know so much, there are also some of the younger generations who think the same too. None of those people are bad, but they apparently have had some trying times with another generation which has changed thier thinking over to that way.

In all Truth, we should all stay neutral about this and allow God to show us insights for learning, regardless where they come from. Its up to each of us, to know and learn God's Word indivdually, to discern what is of God and what not from that.

I pray this helps, -

God Bless!!

thanks all for replying.

i dont mean to make age sound like its a huge factor.

the difference with someone young who is stubborn verses someone who is old and stubborn IS THAT

the old one is twice as deadly as the younger one. i hope that makes sense.

as i said, ive been having personal experiences with some older people about scripture. we think alike in many ways but

i notice that i come off as more open to discussion whereas they are more stubborn. eh...its a long story.

thanks all. :)

An important thing, no matter what age a person is, is to have facts as to why he or she holds a certain opinion. It's also important to be able to admit when you are wrong. Now, I'm not ancient, but when I was younger I had some pretty strong opinions. I listened to older and wiser heads than mine and believed what they taught. As far back as I can remember, my mother and I talked about Who Jesus is and salvation, etc. Becasue of the assurance she had my faith grew. I was a teenager in the 60's and because I listened to my parents I never got involved in drugs or the "free love" lifestyle that grew from the Hippies. The main problem I had was that I really couldn't defend my faith.....I knew I believed but I hadn't studied in order to be able to defend why I had accepted Christ, or why I don't believe in evolution. As I grew older, I have studied. Now I know why I believe what I believe. A person does not have to be older to do this study. My 17 year old daughter can defend her faith quite well. We encourage her to study (we homeschool and Bible study is a part of her lessons).

There are many Bible teachers I listen to...many are older, but many are young. The pastor of the church I attend is 35 and very intelligent and well studied. He is a good, informed teacher. Last Sunday, though, when we walked in, he was talking with a group of people and we heard him say "Here's the man who can answer that question". He then asked my husband about what they had been discussing. Now, it isn't that my husband is oh so smart, but the pastor was humble enough to admit that he doesn't have all the answers. My husband knew the answer, but if he didn't he would have said "I'll look that up". It's not about age.

The letters to Timothy are from Paul to a young man advising him on issues of running a church. Paul would not have left Timothy in charge if Timothy hadn't been well learned, but Timothy was wise enough to ask a more seasoned teacher when he needed help. Young or old, we all need each other and should never rule out someones opinion based only on age.

Cajunboy::::I know of what you're talking about Rock, but you have to realize that everyone takes different paths in life to get to God, and some take a lot longer than others. As for myself, I've always know God since I was a child, but became saved at 17 and now 55. And you're right, those who play the "long route" on purpose in order to "enjoy" the secular life longer while thinking they can always tag on to God's tune later in life, may be in for a surprise in the end!

I don't know if this has always been a trend.

But I turned to Christ at an older age (30).

I look at when I first came to Christ, I didn't take notes but I studied, studied, studied and read, read, read. For me I shared what I learnt with others and I soon realised the pastor also agreed with what I said. No one really debated with me and I don't know if I came over as a know it all. I've learnt to listen to other viewpoints now and to consider them. I used to think there was only one right answer.

I found when I was younger (at school) I thought I was good and I was idealistic. It took stumbling to realise that I need Christ.

It is because they come to the realization that they are going to die one day. When your young, you know your going to die one day, but you don't think about it. It seems like such a long way off to you.

Good Point! Mortality is a thought that arises I guess in there mind, then the person most likely wonders, where will I go if I would die today?

Speaking as an "old" person (though I do realise that some Christians are way older than me, and that some have found Christianity at at older age too). I "found Christianity" when I was 48 and at the time I had no one who was "egging me on". My mother had been a Christian, but unfortunately I was too young and immature to take that seriously and I thought she was a "little odd". My brother was a Christian but he lived many hundreds of miles from me.

It was not a newly discovered sense of my own mortality that finally "did it", but a realisation (that in my case could only come with the wisdom of age) that "everything added up to 100" and it was all true.

It finally dawned on me that the little things that I had heard about Christianity for many years were totally logical and it all made sense. What didn't make sense was the idea that life could have "randomly appeared". I realised that everything was far too intricate and obviously intelligently thought out to ever be the result of an accident (you know the old "a tornado in a junk yard creating a holden V8 from the pieces of junk being flung around and the mathematical odds against it" analogy?)

I had a lot of questions and they were all answered accurately and in the same way by several books I sought out and read on the subject of Christianity.

I realised also that it would take far more faith to believe in atheism than Christianity.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
