Be sure and have "nothing to do with them"!

2 Timothy 3:1 But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. 2 People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, 4 treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God-- 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them.

Oh, and what's a "form of godliness"?

In His Love,

Suzanne

My interpretation of "For Of Godliness" is they are people who claim to be christians and claim to be saved but yet don't live the life of one. In other words they may put on an act to as to make people believe they are christians but when not around other christians they do as they want disregarding the law that Jesus set forth in the 10 Commandments.

I might be totally off but that how I look at that saying.

Hi Suzanne!! :D:emot-wave:

2 Timothy 3: 1This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; 5Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

KJV has it differently, but if I may apply these verses to the Promise Keepers program... they have a form of godliness but deny the power thereof. Proof? The second book in the series is entitled,"The Power of a Promise Kept". That power is of God in living the christian life... not by keeping those promises. By that... they deny Jesus.... His Covenant in that those seven promises are covered in Him as He will do it... so by those promises, they void that faith in Him and that rest in Him as they have now taken His Covenant and put it in their mouths, casting aside His sayings about not making promises that are His to keep because He is the only One that can make our hair white or black permanently.

Psalm 50: 14Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High: 15And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me. 16But unto the wicked God saith, What hast thou to do to declare my statutes, or that thou shouldest take my covenant in thy mouth? 17Seeing thou hatest instruction, and casteth my words behind thee. 18When thou sawest a thief, then thou consentedst with him, and hast been partaker with adulterers. 19Thou givest thy mouth to evil, and thy tongue frameth deceit. 20Thou sittest and speakest against thy brother; thou slanderest thine own mother's son. 21These things hast thou done, and I kept silence; thou thoughtest that I was altogether such an one as thyself: but I will reprove thee, and set them in order before thine eyes. 22Now consider this, ye that forget God, lest I tear you in pieces, and there be none to deliver. 23Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God.

Matthew 15:7Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying, 8This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. 9But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

All one has to do is listen to the praises coming out of the PK program or movement and they are praising God for the Promise Keepers for the difference in the lives of those men. So where is the glory of the Lord?

So those seven promises are like unto a form of godliness, but denying the power being of God as by keeping those promises is the power thereof. Hence a false witness and preaching another gospel in His name.

No, no, Shad, you have it right. It IS a call of duty to maintain your position with Christ at all times, ESPECIALLY when nobody is around. You have to live God's word as an individual, not as a combined entity. There can be no higher existence with your best friend. When you are judged by Christ, you'll be alone on a pedestal.

Also, what is your main question tsth?

When I see the cults of Mormonism , that Scripture comes to mind in the doing good things they do for families and other people and yet denying the True God and the Watchtower (They call themselves Jehovah's Witnesses) these here in "talking or printing articles" about doing good things, they don't help people as a group, I asked why when I was a young person and they said Jesus said there would always be the poor! in such a way that they did not feel any need whatsoever to help anyone else! -no, it did not answer anything for me about them ,until I left when I became of age and later came to know the Lord Jesus) about doing good things, yet also denying the True God.

(Infact, a rare times they helped and made public notice of it during a hurricane,, the sent a bill to the people to pay them back ,it was expected and only to help their own,if you can call that help, since they owe it back! occasionally some leftovers have been given away. They don't have a help for the poor or others programs at all)

People in cults can teach some things of the Bible skipping over main things and people can do some good things for others but they skip over WHO GOD really IS! I'd say that is a form of Godliness(all good come from God) and denying the source God Himself as Who HE really is!

In speaking with two young Mormon mes one day about their belief that man is God in embyro and their belief that their men will one day become Gods and populate planets in their spiritual marriage, I said, "Only GOd is God," there are to be no others, "wasn't it satans sin wanting to be God"?! One seemed affected and began a near robotic-like parroting of his belief in his burning in his bosom that Mormonism is true about three times , while staring into space (I was sad for him for he was in fear that what I said was true) the other accused me of trying to prove Mormonism wrong and stared me in the eye real hard duh...see in cults it's all about them, not Jesus, they preach themselves and their good works are also about preaching themselves and not given humbly to the TrueGOd. THey don't preach reconcilliation to God and CHrist died on the Cross for our sins and we need to go to Him to be saved as both LORd and Saviour,I I do mean that Christ is GOd in the flesh on earth and GOd in heaven, GOd being The Father The SOn and The Holy Ghost.

While I appreciate the love of people who try so hard to help others, like many Mormons do, I am sad that they suffer thinking they must atone for their own sins in such fashion, not recognizing that Jesus IS our ATONEMENT for all our sins.

What can compare to the Cross? How can the Cross make us more willing to serve others? Just thought to throw those thoughts in.

However ,I think all of us can do more than we are do help others! May the belief in Christ never be made to be mere sentiment without any works. No not saved by our works, but can show our faith by our works in that we do them and do them with love, and kindness.

I see alot nowadays in those who kno Who Jesus is also, who don't care at all for doing good works, too. It's tearfullly sad.

We can't turn CHristianity into sentimentalitly alone, then it's notreally CHristianity anymore, is it? For even the devil knows Jesus is God and he fears and trembles over it!

I am not trying to say I don't care for these two groups of people, cause I sure do and I pray for them and hope for them as my lifelong(since wee childhood) friend is in one and her family and my own relatives are in the other and cannot speak to me for leaving it.

Infact, another scripture comes to mind also where it says they will make peddlers of you....and another that says they will set themselves up as EXPERTS of that which they do not even know!

my thoughts there,

elkie

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
