I work at a bakery, We put up our store decorations every year. We have the tree and santa and stuff. We bought a nativity set for our store it has Mary and Joseph and the baby Jesus and the three wise men and the manger. Some customers made complaints and were not allowed to put up our nativity set we bought for our store. I don't get it the catholic church across the street can put theres up on there front lawn. :)

It makes me angry, too

....it's fine to put up Santa, holly bushes and snowflakes, and say 'Happy Holidays'......

But dare to mention CHRIST at CHRISTmas..........and the unbelieving populace is quick to cry 'Foul!!!

Keep putting up Christ-themed things in your own home, and sending Christ-centred Christmas cards, is my advice.

At least we can all try to 'do our bit' that way.

Merry Christmas :):noidea:

I would think that if the person who owns the bakery wants to put up Jesus in a manger that is their right. It's "private" property, like it would be if it were their own home. If it were public property, owned by the city, then they would be wrong to do it.

I would suggest though, if they are going to put up Jesus...take down Santa...it sends mixed messages.

When I was working in retail...we were always taught "The customer is always right." If a customer is complaining about the Nativity, yeah, as a Christian I think that's crazy. But some people aren't Christian, just as I'm not into worshiping the elephant god in the indian culture.

A Christmas tree and Santa are secular as Jesus would be religious.

I would think if the bakery were privately owned, the owner could place whatever decoration they wanted to in their store window at any time of the year...however, when it comes to making some dough (ha) the owner would probably prefer taking something down than losing customers.

customers are telling a private business what they are allowed or not allowed to put up? i think i'd tell them "do you own this business?"

This has to be the decision of the owner. The owner will have to stand before God and give account for their actions, not you. God knows your heart, my friend. Do not allow anyone to steal the joy of celebration of the birth of Jesus the Christ.

I work in retail, and our store does sell Nativity scenes and accessories for them. Customers can choose what they want. Our store also sells food stuffs for Jews, and Muslims. Just because one is Christian or not, they can find what they are looking for.

As far as a private business, thank God I live in a small town, private business do express their beliefs. One Chinese restaurant here plays Christian music in the back ground. Its not blaring, but loud enough to hear it if you want. Another Chinese restaurant has Buddhas in it. People have choices to go where they want to go. I do avoid most stores where I would be offended by the products that are sold there. Unfortunately, some stores that carry what I need are also carrying things that solicit other people with different tastes. I don't complain. I just don't buy what offends me. (Except for fuel, its not the fuel that offends me, its the prices.)

I honestly believe if Christians came together and celebrated Christmas and its true meaning and stayed out of the commercialism, it would send messages to the retailers. There are millions of people spending lots of money on Christmas, and many of them are Christians.

Also, one last thing before I go.....there is awesome power in prayer. Let us pray for our neighbors and nations. Take our complaints before the Lord and let God move in our hearts and our towns.

Merry Christmas everyone.

Bty, in our public schools, the pledge of allegiance is still said "One nation, under God."

I was thinking, (yes I know a dangerous occupation) but if all these people that complain about saying Merry Christmas and putting up nativity scenes, I wonder are they on holiday at Christmas??????????are they javing turkey giving presents singing carols????????????????

I just wonder if they would give up their holidays since they don't believe in Christmas.

:)

Does the bakery really need these particular customers? I'm nearly certain Christians would flock to the bakery, but then again the people we are talking about tend to get violent if the don't get their way :24:
