I Cor. 3:

[11] For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

[12] Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;

[13] Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is.

[14] If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.

[15] If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

This was brought up today in the sermon at our church. What do you think about it? About the works, and the "wood, hay and stubble"?

To me this means, that you can't build your foundation, or reason for doing things on your earthly Gain. Our Foundation needs to be Christ, and we need to follow Him, and do good works for him, not for our own personal gain.

(If this is wayyy off, I apologize. It's late and I'm tired, lol)

God Bless.

Jesus Christ Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.

When I first earned my Masters degree, a friend at the graduatiion ceremony asked what were my thoughts on that milestone?

My immediate response was: "Ah, it's gonna' burn." I knew I needed it, but it's not going to enter the eternal kingdom. It is not a bad thing, but it will not endure.

With a blessing,

Leonard, a sinner

It seems that the wood, hay, and stubble are probably the works we do that are done out of the wrong motive. Perhaps to bring glory to ourself, or because we think we have to do it or others will feel bad toward us, etc. The works that are done for the glory of God, whether they are known about by others or not, these are the things that endure.

That's what I think, also, ginakay. Works of the flesh, like being sure everybody knows you volunteer for all the things going on at church, and giving X amount to every other fundraiser going around, and just jumping in to be the first to get something done. Knowing the preacher is going to mention your name for all the things you do.

Someone said something like "I want to pay back God for all the time I wasted". That's great, if it's done in the right spirit, and not to make yourself feel good, or look good to others. But, nothing we can do, is going to win us "favor" with God, or cause Him to love us more than He already does. I think we should let the Spirit work from within us, and the more anonymously (sp?) it can be done, the better as far as I'm concerned, especially if it has to do with giving money or helping someone.

I think the wood, hay and stubble are works of the flesh, done for the wrong reasons, even though on the surface they look right. JMO

I'm sure you'll come up with something good, eric - you always do! :o I also think that some people can be doing these wood, hay, stubble type works and not realize it at all.

Hi Calamity :il:

I suppose i will through in my 2c worth.

1 Corinthians 3

9For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, you are God's building. 10According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it.

So we can have faith in Jesus as our savior that is our foundation. But we over time build upon this starting point Beliefs that may or may not be true, when the Day comes it will be clear what truth and what lies we have supported and the lies will be burnt away. But even if we hold false doctrine because we in our pride want to conform the Word to our thinking of what is right, we will still be saved as long as we have that foundation of Belief in Jesus as the Messiah.

Just after the passage you quoted Paul warns:

1 Corinthians 3

16Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? 17If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are.

18 Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you seems to be wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise. 19For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, "He catches the wise in their own craftiness"; 20and again, "The LORD knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile." 21Therefore let no one boast in men. For all things are yours:

So we are building our faith and we should not try to build it on our own intellect because we can deceive ourselves. God Tells us that our own wisdom is futile. We know that many men who consider themselves wise will try to define God, put Him into there box and when they think they have God worked out they will boast within themselves that they found God. The Word Of God is not something we can crack with our own intellect it is only God who can reveal the Word to whom He wills to reveal it.

All Praise The Ancient Of Days

adstar, that's very interesting, and a good 2 cents worth! I always thought of the wood, hay and stubble passage as being works-related, but you bring up some very good points. Thanks!

Perry Stone's grandmother had a dream just before she died. This is by no means biblical and no one is making a doctrine of it but it was very interesting and changed the way I view the verses/

She got to heaven and said everyone standing around with books, some with a lot and some with just one. She said a famous preacher had a lot of books and he was told to go up to the altar, Jesus touched the books and they burned up, when the fire went out there was nothing left. Jesus told the man to go to his eternal reward--(He made it to heaven but had no rewards for good works) Perry wouldn't say the preacher's name but said soon after that he fell into sin and lost his ministry.

Everyone did this and some had jewels when the fire went out and Jesus handed them to them.

One little lady just had one book, Jesus touched it, it burned and when it was burnt there were lots of jewels. Then He took the jewels and put them back into the fire and made crowns and set the jewels in them, those that had crowns laid them at Jesus' feet and those that had no works had nothing to bring to the King.

Pretty cool dream, I think it could be accurate.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
