How can someone know if someone is possessed by a demon or are just mentally ill who needs some medication?

i can answer this as i was in a church were we had such a person with mental problems when she was on medication she was ok but when she was off her medication and in church on sunday boy you wish you stayed home as all you would hear is how these demons are possesing her how sevral are talking to her threw the worship service she would start to swear and then she would yell at my pastor and threaten him

but my pastor was also the maneger for mental health in new england so he knew how to handle her but if you have never had some one like this in your church or your pastor or leaders or elders are not experianced in this i could say do some of your leg work on this

my old church offers help to other pastors and leaders as my old church was the only one that would take on people with mental problems it does not mean as soon as some one with mental problems walks in your church for the very first time and to were you try to cast the demon out of them this wil not do you or any one any good

it is wrong to tel a person who has mental problems and is on medication they need to stop their medication becaus it says in gods word what needs to happen is this we take them for who they are with out judging them

too many churches have done this as it gives them a bad name to were god is not moving among them i have seen this too many times its as if a person has no faith if they do not get heald straight away

god still loves these preciouse brothers and sisters and he has his hands on them no matter what it might be doing to your faith or were you are in your walk

i am dealing with this know and this person has gone of the rails she thinks god has ordained her to sit in on judgment on gods people i have been very patient with this person yet at the same time i have been using tuff love not soft love with her every time she leaves me something to read or gives me a verse from the bible i counter react it reverse phycology she feels she is the only one that jesus has forgiven she feels that all pastors are murderers and men and women serving in our army and in our navy are walking in disobediance and are evil

she bought up the topic on love and again i had to be patient with her know she is bringing up another subject on trinitarians and i am having to use reverse phycology with her she is off her medication and i can see how its been effecting her she told me she dropped of some pamphlets to a pastor and how no one read what she had left in the churches foyer as she came back to see if their were any responces to find her pamphlets she left were in the dumpster as she picked up a pamphlet that was on the floor next to the dumpster

i said what did she leave on the pamphlets she said this all pastors are greedy and wil go to hell they preach on evil and teach all their members to be evil as they support our goverments and do not speak up and they do not put into practise to what they preach

i am though not letting what i am picking up in her effect me or stick to me or have me question what christ has done in my life and what i saw him do threw me while i was in the phillippines for 3 weeks

so i hope this sort of helps but i know others will have a few things to add hear in your post natt

so for me i would not do this to a person with mental problems but i wil pray for them and love them into the kingdom

comming to your other question you wil know this with in your own spirit just put your trust in the holy spirit and re read 1 john 4 when it comes to testing the spirits this wil give you guide lines

Why I ask this is because I watched a movie title 'The exorcism of Emily Rose' which is based on the true story of Anneliese Michel. The priests involed in the exorcism believed she was possessed but others believed she was Mentally Ill. Anneliese's symptoms have since been compared with those of schizophrenia.

When I was beginning ministry and learning it was not fun but then exciting to find answers. Usially I contribute a headache that comes on suddenly with vertigo as a witchcraft spirit. To some it may be a different trigger.

I also had suffered from migraines as well.

As a very wise person said " if you have a headache try tylenol first..if it doesn't go away..then pray!"

After a while I was able to distinguish the two.

The promblem with psych is that it takes time for meds to work.

Unless The Holy Spirit says otherwise to you. I hope this helps.

I also consider opposite action. For instance a normally calm person goes out and does something off the wall ungodly they may have been oppressed.

I have a question as well...When I read about the demoniac I noticed the demons cried out to Jesus, not the demoniac. Any body else noticed this? I can start a new thread if you think this one question can hijack the thread...patricia1

i know of the movie as i have seen this too and i know of emily rose this should never have happend but the catholic church was strong on exorcisem she did have mental problems yes anellieses symptoms have since been compared with those of schizophrenia

i had to watch the movie four times just to get what was realy happening but when one has not experianced this how does one deal with this were does a person look the bible gives us answers jesus delt with this with the disciples and when ever he would cast a demon out he would tell the demon to be silent as they new who jesus was

i have even experianced this but dare not bring it up as people wil think you are a nut case but i wanted to understand why this was being used as part of counsling and healing when it comes to non believers and the demonic world

as i said i would never do this to a mentally ill person but others i know have done this i take a diffrent approach and make sure they are taking their medication and if i come across a christian trying this stance i wil challange and tell them to back of and let god be god

Personally, when I was doing things I had no business doing; when I stopped, repented, and went back to church, I wanted to vomit and had cough attacks at church while hearing the WORD. The demons were coming out of me because they were afraid of the word of The Lord Jesus Christ! They just came out of me like that. But some others are more stubborn so I'd say if you want to know for sure, just have the prayer warriors at your church put their hands over you and pray over you! The power of prayer is sooo amazing that they come flying out because they fear Jesus so much! Always turn to God first, then you can see if modern medicine can help you. You might have a chemical imbalance that can be corrected with modern medicine but ALWAYS put God first!!!

I have wanted to watch that movie myself before: "The Exorcism of Emily Rose", although I was always scared that by watching it I would open doors for the to attack me. What do you think of this? Did you go into spiritual warfare after watching it or not? God always prevails, I know this!

high i just came on line today and found what you left for me i was not a christian when i saw this movie i saw this movie in a youth refuge i was staying in sydney australia so i was stil very young

but know that i am a christian and if i ever come across a movie like this or am in some ones house and they are watching horror movies i pray for gods blood to cover me and i pray over my family as i too had experianced what you shared when i got saved i did not know i had so many demons in me but when it was al finished i was feeling very peac full

i also pray over the inter net and when i am on the ph as i do not want nothing sticking to me i have seen and experianced this in a mens house i was working in and before i step foot out side into the real world i spend time alone praying and i put gods armor on every day as if we do not do this satan can attack us and we do leav doors open

i try not to leav a door open i even pray over what i hire from the video shop or what my own son watches and listens to

but if this movie ever comes on free tv which it has in my part of the world i wil pray and make sure nothing sticks to me

this is just the way i am know as when i was a young christian i left to many door open i try not too let history repeat it self as you get old you seem to get mature and a little bit wise

Prayer should be the first approach to anything in this area. That acompanied with fasting. We cannot assume anything. I personally believe that most mental illnesses are demonically related in some way or another. Possession is an extreme that the majority don't have to worry about or deal with. It is harassment that is more common.

It is very necessary to allow the Holy Spirit work in this area, and permit Him to work His will through you, if you are the one to be used.
