So Gary Gygax has died

For those who don't know, Gygax has been credited with the creation of Dungeons and Dragons. While I never played the game myself (although I had friends in High School who played it and others like it), without D&D we wouldn't have RPGs (Role Playing Games) like the Final Fantasy series.

A sad day for gaming history (yeah, I'm a day off).

As a gamer and RPer; it is indeed a sad thing, however it's great to know without him (and a few other people) RPGs and video games in general would only be a passing fad.

Forever my elves, orcs, dwarves and etc will be lacking the Overdiety in my D&D pantheon. Forever will he be missed. It seems not long ago I was reading his emails talking about people thinking D&D was Satan worship, and how Gary was cheering on this guy who wrote the satirical article, and he even used a "" smiley face. So in honour of Gary Gygax and that style of smiley face he used, I now express how I feel.

that is what my thoughts were, Yod.....

here is something else to think about.....

someone dies every day..... around here, i know about 75 % of the ones that pass, in this area, (from my previous advocation).... i have to say, that most of them that pass, i am at peace about, there are some that have left me a bit uneasy.....

when my Grandfather passed, i was totally at ease, when Grandma went, I knew she too went home.... when my biological father went, i did not have that peace.....oh, he was a good man and all, but i honestly do not believe he had a relationship with Christ......

when my friends wife went, i was at peace, just 8 years earlier, she had beat death, flat lined, her where abouts were unaccounted for for over an hour, she had an insulin reaction, which caused heart failure, and when she was found there was no pulse or breathing.... that was a Friday evening, and she was not expected to make Saturday morning.....

she had to be shocked several times after the EMT's showed up, just to get a pulse, they have no idea how long she had actually been out.... all through the night, as they waited for the rest of the family, she declined in condition.... Saturday morning, they put the DNR on her records..... they contacted the funeral home, to let him know what was up.... she was drawn up into the fetal position..... she kept going down hill, until Sunday afternoon, (the third day) she was at about her worst condition since she had been shocked back...... some one spoke it out......... JOYCE, IT IS TIME TO WAKE UP....... and she did.... and for 8 more years, she continued to live for Christ..... when she did go home, she went peacefully, and we all were at peace with her passing.....

i would be more interested in how he lived the last part of his life, not what he did early on......

When I heard he died, I was reminded of playing that in highschool.

Most of my characters were good guys. Palladins were Holy warriors of God. That was even before I knew the Lord very well at all, but evil characters were all a bunch of chumps. Even then, I knew which was the winning side.

Clearly you're not terribly familiar with the game itself, only the anti-D&D hype.

I'm not into.any games where you can't sling your opponent to the ground or give them a full impact bruising

however I am familiar with much bad fruit from D&D. in the late 70s a bunch of my friends began playing and some of them still haven't recovered from the fantasy world they created.

maybe...just maybe...a christian would be able to handle it better but none of us were christians back then and they were opened up to a dark spiritual world that confused fantasy with reality too much for me (an atheist at the time)

Think of it this way - would you want your girlfriend/wife to create a fantasy boyfriend/husband that her fantasy self trusts in?
