John Chapter 2 Vs 9-11

9 He who says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness until now.

10. He who loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him.

11. But he who hates his brother is in darkness and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.

I walk around and i have a tendency to think about a lot of things and never verse them outloud because im just quiet like that. I walk down the campus and I see someone and i just start thinking little things like I *hate this about him*. Now i dont mean it like i have hate in my heart and have it out for him, I just mean it in the sense that I dislike an aspect about him or even her. Now my questions is, is this wrong. I guess what im saying is that i, in my head, replace the word dislike for hate. Its not in a sense loving them either. Idk, i just find myself thinking so much about scenario's (sp) where i could possible be arguging with said person and well idk is that wrong?

Yeah i know there is a lot of stuff here but /shrug just a few questions i have / think about a lot and looking for some guidance.

Thanks

Burton

My question would be, who is my brother? Is it my brother in Christ or any other human male?

I think the hate here rises to animosity or the rejoicing in the misery of your enemies or a blantant unconcern for the well being of others.

that's kinda a dangerous attitude to have, to always be negative about people. it would be better to focus on what you do like about them. i know where you're coming from though. it's too easy to focus on what bugs us. i'm being reminded that i could use a great deal more patience and longsuffering with other people's faults!

The goal of te faith is to be critical of yourself and forgiving of others. Instead of the low standard for oneself and a higher standard for others.

This confused me, what are you saying here? That we, as christians, are suppose to be very critical of ourselves and questions everything we do in that the sense, is it right in the eyes of the lord?

Sorry for not being clear...Hold yourself to highest of standards and be patient with others...human nature tends to overlook our own faults and see the faults of others very clearly. Hope that helps to interpret my comment

You'll be okay. Just pray and ask God to remove this judgmental attitude from you. Sometimes, we pick up these kinds of mannerisms from other people that we hang out with, our home environment, etc. It all depends on your situation. Like I said, pray about it. It's a good thing that you recognize it. This is the first step to changing it.

I agree. And the fact that you have awareness about it is really good.

One thing that has helped me is saying "Lord help me to see them the way YOU see them", then I am filled with an overwhelming love for them and their faults are minimized.

There is a fantastic verse,

"Come to me all, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." Matthew 11: 29.

And it is in sharing the 'humbleness' of our Lord Jesus Christ that we find so many answers. You may be sure that when our Lord and Master looks at others through your eyes he concentrates on what is good in them, even though aware of negatives.

But when you look into yourself and not at others you do so in the words from 1 John:2:14

"I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and ye have overcome the evil one. 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the vain glory of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 2:17 And the world passes away, and the lust thereof: but he that does the will of God abides for ever."

The combination overcomes any of the challenges you say you are having on campus.

What an adventure lies in front of you as you walk in the love of your Heavenly Father.

If you are having a problem with someone the best way to keep yourself from having a wrong attitude is to pray for the person you dislike. I think it is a powerful weapon against the enemy of hate/dislike etc. if we express how we feel about that person to the Lord and ask Him to help us walk in love. Every time a negitive thought for that person comes up just pray something like, "Lord, forgive me for thinking badly about that person. I don't like what they do, but I want to love them for Your sake. I want the fruit of the Spirit to become so evident in my life that You are glorified through my life. Lord, help me keep a right attitude and lay any problems I may have with this person at Your feet. I have given my heart, soul and mind to You Lord. Help me keep my thought life pure and my actions to follow in that purity. In Jesus name amen.

And Burton, don't feel as if you are alone. We all have to keep our thoughts in line and pray such prayers. A good place to start is the name you gave yourself...Lost In Sin...are you still lost? Or are you saved? Would Jesus point you out to someone and say, "There's My lost child who is living in sin?" or "There's My son that I cleansed from sin and now he is seated with Me in heavenly places."

Matthew 22:37

Jesus said to him,

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
