It just means a church that believes the gifts of the Spirit remain in operation in the church today, as they did in the book of Acts. That people are still baptized in the Holy Spirit and speak in tongues. That God still heals the sick through the laying on of hands. That the church is still able to cast out devils. Basically, that the gifts were not done away with when the Bible was completed.

I really am trying to understand how you can not see the wrong in a family that would follow any man who appoints himself over the free will that God gave them, and how you could not see the wrong with an adult marrying a child just to add to their many wives. I just think that maybe their 13yr olds are more mature than alot of twenty yr olds! Its a different way of life. I think we over value marrying for "love". Marriage is a partnership

They all have said they were not willing. They are mentally brainwashed into either doing it or being cast out. They dont know what normal life is so being cast out is the equivalent of being thrown into a lions den. Read the stories of those who leave those cults. You will see how bad it is for them. Ive heard interviews of those who flee the cults.

Merin, we're trying to discuss something that seems logical and obvious to some of us and not so obvious and logical to you. I don't know how to bridge that gap, and as you have very young children, not teenage daughters, this somehow doesn't seem to bother you. This is a cult and their beliefs and practices are outside the norms of our society and its laws. There are such obvious violations that intervention had to happen. The separation of families is awful but so is cutting a body open to remove a cancerous tumor. This imposition of law has to be done. Taken to your logical extreme, people could do just about anything they want if they lived within walled and isolated compounds. It doesn't work that way in a society of laws. This is polygamy and undoubtedly incest. That isn't allowed in the United States. It is simply creepy and I wonder why you don't understand that.

ok merin, tell me this.... if some 50 year old had the hots for your 13 year old daughter, do you really think that your daughter would be all hot for him in return? and whether she did or didn't (and that's highly unlikely!) would you make her marry the old guy? (or would you even encourage her to do so of her own accord?)

When you married your wife, was it an arranged marriage? Did someone tell the two of you that God wanted you to marry, and then pushed you into it, or was it done willingly?

The problem here is more than age. It is the fact these young girls are being forced into marriages they don't wish to be in, at least in some cases.

Under the Polygamist Diaries link that I posted, is an interview with a teen in such a marriage. I hope some of you went there and listened. Merin, those girls are in terrible situations. If you hear their stories, you will see just how bleak their lives are. You would never be able to defend their lives in that cult if you knew their stories.
