you guys keep saying that you can not buy the gift...i say you guys because i'm not good at remembering who says what but anyways... we agree nobody said that...i'm confused...?lol she said she gained knowledge about the gift and then you say neb your wrong but you can gain nowledge about a gift from someone...lol ahhhh

I was referring to the fact that this pastor is charging to teach someone how to get a gift. Neb was saying that she learned how to hear Gods voice from someone's teaching. I was stating that there is a difference. You can learn about a gift, but you can not receive a gift by attending a class or any sort. Yes, you can learn of someone's experience who has a gift, but this does not mean that you would then have it because you learned for that person.

Do you believe that one can be taught on how to be a prophet?

Can someone teach another person how to be a prophet of God?

Consider this:

Elijah trained Elisha. :)

Are you telling me that this Todd Bentley is on the same level as Elijah?

Where in the world did you get the idea that I was saying anything close to that?

No, that is not what I was saying.

Mr. Bentley will teach you how to be a prophet in 4 days....how long was Elisha's training?

My point was that just because you have a gift does not mean you do not need any instruction on how to use the gift.

It's like this: a "How to drive a car" manual won't do me any good if I don't have a car (and a license if you want to get technical). But, if you do have a car, instruction on how to drive it is a very, very good idea.

the same can be said for any "gift" - whether spiritual or physical. If you don't know how to use it, you are bound to fumble with it. But if you have the gift, instruction is incredibly useful.

***

Recall that Eli needed to teach Samuel that he was hearing the voice of the Lord? If Eli never taught that to Samuel, and how to respond, how long do you suppose it would have taken Samuel to understand what was going on?

Did you really get that from him? He's not giving out gifts from the spirit of todd.....

Isaiah and Jeremiah-et-all in the OT were handpicked by God and were not taught how to prophesise.

How do you know they were never taught anything?

People who write books about gifting are only writing about their own experiece with their particular type of gifts.

And why cannot people learn from others' experiences?

Discernment is an inner knowledge that is hard to define, let alone teach, it's something that is laid on your spirit and you take heed of it and ponder on it in conjuction with the H/S. Now that not to say that I am always 100% right, but it rings enough bells to make me cautious if not suspicious.

Understood.

Question: Have you learned to distinguish your own biases from the discernment of the Spirit? How have you learned to tell the difference?

This thread is about the Florida revival, so I'm asking why would God reign His wrath on an area ( not that I believe that it was an act of God) four years ago and then send some unknown preacher to call a revival in the same part of the country. Not saying it's impossible,or even implausible, just weird.....to me anyway.

Sometimes you need to break something before you can remold and reshape it.

As for Elijah and Elisha, God knew He was going to take Elijah home and passed his cloak onto Elisha. It was arranged by God himself.

Elisha served Elijah for a long time before he was taken home.

What do you make of the "sons of the prophets" who prophesied to Elisha before Elijah was taken?

If someone wants to publish a book, then the one who wants to read it can pay the price. This does not mean that the gifts of the Spirit can be bought or sold.

Is he advertising - "Buy the book and you will receive the gift?"

Neb, your problem was not a gift of the Spirit. It was knowing the voice of God.

Well, first of all -

Is it possible for a person to prophecy without knowing the voice of God?

Second -

Paul instructed us to pray for the gift of prophecy. (1 Cor. 14:1 - Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy.)

Have you sought the Lord for this? :)

Hi Neb, I just read three different versions of that verse and all agree that Paul said to desire spirirtual gifts, which I surmise that it is a gift that can only come from God through prayer, and especially the gift of prophecy, so kudos for that part, but as all the gifts are from God, I, myself do not think that any man can teach any other man how than can be obtained. As for the first question, I would have to say no, I mean who knows the voice of God. satan is quite capable to imitate God's voice. The H/S has quickened a lot of scripture in my quiet times with Him but I don't hear actual words.granted that we are all unique in Him.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this study, I'll be focusing on Daniel and his picture of the resurrection and its connection with Yeshua (Jesus).

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
