Our family follows a strict budget and we buy the same exact things every single week so it's not like we are buying a lot of extras that we don't need and in the last couple of weeks the same items that usually cost us around $160 has jumped to over $200. By comparing old receipts with the recent ones it looks like the big culprit is meat because we eat a lot of sandwiches and things that can be cooked quickly in the microwave because we are always on the go and don't have a lot of time to stop and cook a big meal. I might add that's $200 after using coupons and our Kroger card which this past week saved us over $48 so factor in without the Kroger Card savings we'd have paid around $250 a week.

Pretty soon it's going to be cheaper to just stop by a fast food place and order off of the $1 menu 2 meals a day for 7 days a week that only comes out to what $3 per person x 14 = $42 that's a lot cheaper than $200. lol

as long as diesel fuel prices are over $5/gallon, food prices are going to continue to sky-rocket.

That and the fact that all those millions of acres of corn got washed away in the midwest floods which is going to raise the price of everything from Milk to Eggs to Meat to just about everything.

If I like vegetables I'd start growing my own food but I'm not a big veggie guy I'm more a meat and potatoes guy which is why this is killing me having to cut back on the amount of meat and quality of meat we can buy. It's now down to the $.79 Land O Frost meat compared to the $3 + butterball stuff.

i understand... i hate veggies too. but here where i live, prices skyrocketed on everything long ago. a loaf of bread here averages about $3. i used to hit the deli counter at walmart neighborhood market for lunchmeats because they were the cheapest place around, but even there i'm having to pay 8-9 bucks a pound for peppered turkey for my husband's lunches. there've been times that i've broken down and bought those little bitty packages of carl buddig lunchmeats. heck, even those are almost a buck now. i used to get them three for a dollar.

Don't forget the cost of ethanol.

I've been noticing it for quite a while. Everything has gone up by at least a third, even at Walmart.

I have been trying to use this as an excuse not to cook but my husband doesn't buy it at all! I am not sure if the others in my family would eat off the dollar menu! :emot-questioned: We are a meat and potatoes family, 3 grown people eat a lot! I tend to stick to casseroles and that type of thing and I always hope there are left overs to freeze so I can get two meals. I also make large pots of soups that freeze well. I hear it mentioned a lot that one reason our meat is getting so high is because of the growing demand in China and elsewhere in the Asian market. The veggies at some of the stores here are just terrible looking and do not last but just a few days if that.

LadyC,

Wow I shop mostly at WalMart and have only seen on occasion the price you mention. I usually pay around 6 dollars for a pound of turkey for sandwhiches and find that its about the same price as the other stores. My husband dislike the buddig meats but I like them myself. Remember when they were like 20 cents a package?!

My guess is that it is more than a "spike". With the storms that destroyed many of the crops in the midwest (corn and soy beans in particular) prices could continue to rise. thats God that s believers we serve a God who is greater than our circumstances

mizzdy, yes! i remember when they were about twenty cents!

i think the price may have just gone up recently... the walmart market at lamb & charleston is where i paid... i think it was 7.99 this time for the jennie-o peppered turkey. i used to pay 5.99.

heck they used to be the one place you could find bread for under a buck, as long as it was their brand. just a few months ago, they sold their brand for seventy two cents. now even that is 1.12 i think.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this study, I'll be focusing on Daniel and his picture of the resurrection and its connection with Yeshua (Jesus).

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
