Obama Chapter in school books

I am glad you brought this up, because I was thinking a lot about it the other day. What has happened is we have a new generation of youth who have contempt for this nation and those who founded it. We used to revere people like George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, and now we focus on their flaws. We used to look at America as the greatest country in the world, and now we see it as no differen't than third world dicatorships.

There was an episode of Andy Griffith that came to mind. The kids in school didn't want to learn American history, and were outwardly rebelling against the teacher. Andy turned things around by telling a story to the children in a way that it sturred up excitement and American pride. We need to find a way to do what he did. We need to find a way to stir up feelings of patriotism once again. We need to figure out a way of getting the youth looking at America as the greatest nation on God's green earth (line stolen from Michael Medved). That is the only hope we have of stopping this left-wing tide.

Isn't looking at the flaws of the supposedly great and good an essential part of a democratic society? Would you rather live in ignorance regarding your current and past leaders as semi-divine figures or see them as they are warts and all? You use the word revere (To regard with awe, deference, and devotion) with reference to Washington and Jefferson, why they were not divine just mere mortals like you and me?

Isn't there an irony implicit in your post, as you seem to be criticizing the authors of this book for treating a current politician and possible future president in the way that you regret that former leaders are now not being treated?

Hitler started with the Hitler youth movement. After only a few years of indoctrinating children through education, he was able to do anything he wanted with Germany.

The parents don't know what their kids are being told to believe every day at school and soon the kids are at odds with the parents if there is any disagreement with government propoganda....and the family is split rendering opposition ineffective.

This is scary stuff, ya'll.

Not all of the younger generation thinks that way....my kids are flag waving conservatives and there are many, many more just like them.

There isn't much hope for those who have already been endoctrinated by the left. I was thinking about those who are coming up today, and haven't formed anti-American views already.

All hope may not be lost, Butero. People change as they get older; their ideas change from free wheeling, feel good, love the universe idealism to down to earth, diaper changing, working for a living reality. Most, not all. I still meet people who haven't changed a whit since their pot smoking days at Berkley or Baylor.
